As stated.
Found a deal on refurb Nikons. All kinds of models for seemingly great deals. The main difference I see is they only come with a 90 day warranty vs the lifetime.

They are quite a bit cheaper, and the budget it tight.

So what does the forum think?

Will be mounted on a Ruger American 308.

I have found that a lot of refurbished stuff is better the second time around. Someone took the time to fix and put it back together the right way. I've bought refurbished power tools and a lot of automotive parts are "rebuilt" with no problems.

Natchez Shooter Supply normally carries a crowd of refurbished, blemished, and demo models. Don’t know if that’s what the OP is referring to but they’ve got Leupold, Nikon, and Burris in stock on those deals now.

I've not had a problem with Blems, but I can't speak on the refurbished.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy one and then give it some good hard testing before the 90 days is up.... IE, put it on a hard recoiling rifle, bump it a few times to see if it holds zero, and test it's tracking. If it passes.... odds are you are OK for a long time.

Prostaff 5 replaced the buckmaster series IIRC...... If not Prostaff 5, then Buckmasters.....its a decent scope.

100 max around here. Possibly pushing 200 but only for range time at that distance. The clarity of the glass and the price point keeps bringing me back. The more I read it seems like even the cheaper ones are hard to beat.

Bushnell Trophy is similar in quality and price and carries a no questions asked lifetime warranty. I've been tempted by the refurbished Nikons before but the 90 day warranty scares me. It shows they don't have much faith in the product in my opinion.

I have had a number of guys contact me over the weekend asking about all these refurb scopes and the great prices. Yes, the warranty is 90 days hence the great deal but Nikon is still going to stand behind what they sell. Nikon doesn't repair scopes and sells them as refurbs so rest assured you are getting a quality scope for a great price. These products are usually show, salesman, store, or writer samples. Just an idea, 100's of scopes are used just at SHOT Show alone. I have bought 2 MONARCH 5 scopes from Natchez in the past year and zero issues. Both 3-15x50 ADV BDC. I hope this info helps guys? Feel free to drop me a note any time if you have questions.

Just ordered a couple. A 3-9*40 p tactical MRAD that may end up on a .224 Valkyrie build and a 3-9x40 BDC that will be a Christmas gift

I hope you'll be able to do a review when you get them? That Valkyrie is a nice round, a buddy loves it for coyote hunting. Merry Christmas!

I'm torn on the Valkyrie or a 6.5 Grendel. Want something with more punch at range than either 5.56 or .300BLK

I get it. I love shooting my Ruger American in .300 BO suppressed but it just doesn't give me that warm fuzzy feeling my .17 hmr or .204 R does. I have jumped on the 6.5 CM bandwagon big time and it is an awesome round. I tried to resist until shooting a buddies rifle and that was all it took. One friend is shooting the 6.5 G in AR and bolt configuration for coyotes and loves it. He also loves the .243 55 gr. BT ammo too.

Got to the range today with both scopes. I ended up giving the Buckmaster II BDC to my father in law as an early Christmas present. Swapped it onto his Savage 110 .308 and ditched the cheap package scope he's been hunting with. Had it zeroed within no time. Exceptionally clear and turrets tracked beautifully.

While I'm trying to decide on a long range AR I popped the PTactical onto a 16" 5.56 1:7 Carbine. It had a Trijicon reflex on it and probably will again someday but for now I thought I'd see what the scope and that gun could do. Not too bad with Hornady Black 75gr BTHP. .87" group was the best of the day. Opened up a bit with the Barnes 70 gr TSX but was still hovering around an inch at 100.

Overall very happy with both scopes and at 209 shipped for both I think I got a pretty good deal.

Going through pics I forgot about this one.
This is my PSA ar10 18" with that $80 Nikon, using a front rest from 100 yards. The rifle has some goodies but for the most part the hard parts are stock.
This is shooting cheap Federal XM80 FMJ.

Oh hell no all my groups aren't like that. This one was pretty tight. But it proves the scope and rifle can do their job no problem if I do mine, and leaves me pondering...now why do I need a Zeiss again?

So, 149gr,,?

Yup, at least in my book.
Two on top , "Cold Bore?"

NICE Job!

now why do I need a Zeiss again?

Totally Sarcastic , you need a $1,000 dollar Zeiss so you can send it back when it Breaks.

Yeah 149's. It's that bulk that PSA had on sale a few months back. I'm pleasantly surprised how well it does, at least from my rifle anyway.

Rarely start out shooting paper. I usually take a warm up lap..10 shot mag at the steels.. before I chomp down on the cigar and get serious. After solid hits on the 10 and 8 inch steels, I move to the 4". A couple-three hits on that and then I move to the paper.

That P-Tactical scope from Nikon has been selling very well. Some nice improvements over the P-223 line which is being discontinued and can often be found deeply discounted right now. The P-Tactical in MOA/MRAD has been needed for a long time and they truly are selling very quickly. For sub $200 you get a great value.
