Registration happening in CA.

43% sounds like a lot. But it probably isn’t since on a bigger scale. maybe a few hundred or so more?

Yawn, they let it happen
This sort of thing can be a real problem when you are in a minority group and the majority doesn't care about the concept of freedom. It may be a gun issue in CA now, but a couple of years ago this happened to me and property I own over a zoning issue. The damned Democrats played their "it's called democracy and we voted card".

Sadly, too many don't know the difference between democracy and representative republic. And which of the two we should be striving to live under.

A democracy is two foxes and a chicken deciding what to have for supper.

just saw one article on one of the MSM sites that showed a 'bullet button' with a plastic 5.56 dummy round pushing in the mag release. NO DUMMIES, that was the result of your last misguided gun control push ie: no mags released without a 'tool' aka the 5.56 round. The BULLET BUTTON was a simple work around to your stupid misguided laws that did nothing to stop crime. Just like the ugliness of the NY compliant stocks on ARs.

What they really should try to is ban private ownership of all firearms in NY and CA. All of them, just like Feinswine said 'turn em all in'. Forget incrementalism, just try it the socialist 'go for the gusto' route :D

I found it interesting that they construed the bullet button as something that made reloading faster possible, when it was designed to slow the process. Its like blaming the breaks in someones car for them not stopping at stop signs because the breaks make it easier to not stop.

.......and when all guns are turned in that means all. No special security details for politicians, actors and their families. Nobody. Let them live in fear just like the rest of the people. Once a few of them loose their lives maybe someone will get the message.

the level of non compliance would be epic, not to mention the political fallout

This. The idea that CA gun owners "did this to themselves" is like saying everybody here is responsible for 8 years of Obama, even though nobody voted for him. They all vote against this crap repeatedly. They have the biggest gun forum and most gun owners in the US.

Gun owners in CA are not our enemies. They are men and women just like you and are caught behind enemy lines. The more that "just leave" the more it becomes a bigger majority. It's the lefty Marxists who are our enemies. By "our" I mean gun owners throughout the US.

I grew up and saw this happening through the 80's and 90's to CA, and guess what: I see it starting to happen here. Reagan was the Governor of CA at one point! From 1942 to 1994, over 1/2 a century, their were TWO democrats, one moderate/right and one moonbat. Likely they will now never see another Republican. Please take a minute to think about this in depth rather than just tossing it off and declaring "it can't happen here". Because it can happen here. Just my opinion.

It can, and will likely, happen here. The demographics are just too significant. The emigration into the state, especially from the north, from the Great Lake states, and the techies coming from California, it's just a matter of time. The only hope is that the rural counties maintain the traditional conservative base and at least get a decent proportion of conservatives into the state and US house.

Its also important to note that many coming here are coming here because they left those places for the very reason we are discussing, so there is an upside. Many want to come here as they see better gun laws, etc.

The emigrants (not generalizing on all, just an opinion) to the Carolinas want to escape the oppressive government in their respective states. However, once they are established in their adopted state, they start wanting to have the same stuff that they had in their old states such as: “we need a park with this and that for the children” and before you know it, leftists politicians will pop up and start promising this and that. In no time “common sense” gun control becomes the main subject and the leftists politicians will gladly oblige to control the sheep.

IDK. I'm from a long line of Charlotteans and the bigger it gets, the more liberal it becomes.

I don't @NKD meant that they move to CLT... Or the RTP area...

This is true of RTP/The Triangle as well. A lot of these people aren't here because of draconian laws or policies or politics in their states, they come here because of the economic climate, the cost of living, and the weather. A lot of these people want the same thing they had, but here.

bingo. I've heard people say "I really miss Jersey....except the weather" as they want us to work on their half-million dollar suburban home they acquired thru upward trending value of their dump they left back in NJ.

I hear stuff like this all. The. Time. And when I hear crap like, "Man, you can't get a decent fill-in-your-favorite-regional-food-here....", I tell them the interstates have north-bound and west-bound lanes. Yes, many of these people want to import their little slice of Shangri-La to NC.

To be fair...I have a lot of friends who left 'bad' states for the right reasons and want no part of it. I don't want to come off like I am painting with a broad brush.

We moved here about 15 or so years ago. It was work, pretty much a new job as I had been there 3 weeks when it was announced, that brought me here. I don't think I ever wanted to make it, or change it to be like where I come from, which was a relatively conservative, republican leaning part of OH. Instead I embraced the culture and developed an appreciation for it. Of course I moved to a moderately sized city (High Point) and worked in the little town of Archdale, which is quickly rural once you leave the town proper. Somewhere along the way people stopped asking, "where are you from originally?", and started asking, "your originally from here, right?" It's about the time I stopped hearing about "you Yankees" and instead heard about "those Yankees".

Now I will admit that there were a few items I missed at first that I couldn't find in the grocery store, but I really couldn't tell you what they were, with the exception of maybe cottage ham. There were also new things that I discovered I like.

best one is "I can't garden in this clay, its so hard blahblah to landscape in NC, etc" and I'm like so you miss that 2 months of summer growing season back in the upstate of NY eh? Well... Its still up there and you know how to get back

Yeah, not gonna argue and of that. I agree completely and see it myself. In my quite I said "many coming here are coming here". I didn't say "all".

But I would note that a lot of the most liberal people I have met here, were native Carolinians, and some of the most conservative, from elsewhere. I was shocked when I moved here to find people that were very left. Y'all got plenty of native lefties here.

My wife, whose the gardener, just realized that it takes more effort to amend the soil. Here, you can have flowers year round or even a garden if you do it right.

then act like YOU are the idiot because you object to "progress" for the "greater good"

and by greater good they mean something THEY want

I have to say, there is only one thing I miss about CA: the motorcycling roads. But shooting has more than filled that hole, and I feel confident the NC mountains would be quite enough to slake my thirst if I get another bike.

I don't miss anything else. Notta. The very idea of going back makes me break out in hives. NC is an amazing state and I love everything about it, even the wet heat.

My wife is from Buffalo, NY. In fact as of this weekend she will have been in NC longer than she was in NY. She hates NY, never wants to go back. There are food she misses, though, and when her sister or friend goes back to visit, they'll bring stuff back. Given her NY/Great Lakes accent, though, she'll never be mistaken for a native.

Her three sisters are here, as is her mother. Her mother is an unabashed NC-basher, talks crap about NC all the time. I tell her if she says the word, I will help her pack. Hell, I will drive if I can ply her with valium.

10 years MAX

Depends on how the legislature goes, but I won't be surprised....

If there is a saving grace, it's that there are enough old Blue Dog democrats in NC that are pro-gun, and with the general pro-gun rural areas, could bring enough pressure to bear to keep it at bay. Of course, all it takes is one or two elections.

What I find interesting is that some folks that have the strongest accents are not native and others that are native have little or no accent. Several years ago I was told I sounded like someone born in the South that moved to the Midwest. Now, I don't notice an accent in anybody local. I do notice a difference in other (southern regions), but it's not as pronounced as it used to be, while NE and even Midwest (lack of) accent is more pronounced.

While you lose the ability to 'gain' an accent in early childhood, you can dampen the quality of your accent if you go to an area where that accent is not prevalent (i.e., southern accent in Massachusetts). BUT, if you are around other accents when you are a child, you might code into that accent as an adult if you are around it. I have a flat/neutral accent, I don't know why. I suspect it's from growing up on a military base. My dad was from Wisconsin, my mother was a native North Carolinian with a thick accent. But even though I don't have an accent, my dialect, the words I use, etc., is from eastern NC.

When my wife is around people from western NY, her accent is much worse.

Good point. There is a difference between dialect and accent. If I take the Yankee - Dixie quiz (one can google it) using the words I now use, I score as a southern speaker. One thing that is curious is that a lot of the expressions in the quiz have commonality between the south and Midwest while being different in other areas. For example, a sub sandwich, which is used in both places in other areas it's called a hoagie or a grinder.

The county I live in is" The Independent Republic of Horry". This is on the side of LE vehicles. Horry is larger in land mass than the state of Rhode Island. There are several and distinct dialects and people recognize each other from general conversation.

A Republic is what we are supposed to be. This is what we've become:

68K "bullet-button assault weapons" have been registered in California.

Is it my imagination, or are there probably 68K registerible weapons in any number of small California cities?
