Thinking about loading 150gr over H335. Will that work in an AR10 acceptably well for punching paper and running steel?

I'm running 168s in my bolt gun. Are they a better option for the AR?

Nice thing about an AR10 is that any powder good for the 308 will work, you are not worried about port pressure / op-rod velocity as on the M1/M14 style rifle.

I had a learning curve for loading my AR10 from my bolt gun. All good now, but you can overpressure one kinda easy.

I've got a Gen II PA10 and I'm trying to work up a load with 178 gr. Way overgassed! All development has come to a standstill until I get an adjustable gas block. Since I have another project that just took over top priority, it is relegated to surplus & bulk of the 155 variety. That's not what I bought it for. It also means that it is not worthy of the glass I've mounted. That isn't as bad as it could be because the top priority rifle is worthy of it.

I'm right there with you man. I found that putting a rifle buffer setup on it helps tremendously; I have a superlative arms AGB sitting new in the bag. I determined that A. it's alot of fun to shoot and B. I'll break it in with a few hundred rounds of XM80C before I go mucking around with the gas system. ARs, especially cheap ones, need a break in period.

Actually ripping the rims off the brass ain't gonna get fixed by swapping out the buffer. I have 548 rounds of CBC ammo I can't use in the PA10. I'll try it in the M1A.

All my loads for my m1a work quite well in my ar10. Have a superlative agb as well, 20in criterion bbl.

Been running mainly 168 SMKs via 42gr IMR 4064, cci 200s.

For 150 FMJs and 155 Nosler HPBT, 42.5 of 4895, same primer.

Sure it will, by slowing lock and extraction times. Going from that 3oz buffer to a 5.2oz rifle buffer and tube tames the beast.
None of the rims of my XM80C has been damaged in my overgassed middy PA10

I'm surprised your not blowing out primers with 45g of varget and a 168g in a gas gun.

Yeah... I can't figure it out either... that is a lot of Varget. Never had a problem with them.. using CCI BR2's, Hornady Brass, Plain ole Rock Chucker and RCBS dies....

1st Generation DPMS LR-T.... shoots sub moa. In fact, I have used it in many DMM and PRS matches; with good results. Slick side so no brass dings... brass is fine, primer pockets are fine.

I'll see if I can find the target in .5 and .2 grains that I worked up and post... it just really liked the higher charge... groups shrunk like a frightened turtle.

According to Hodgdon's reloading data, 45gr of Varget under a 168gr is a compressed max load. That must be a horrendous CRUNCHING sound when seating that bullet!

Interesting...my first gen PA1o has been problematic from day one. Anything over about 2450fps causes problems and wrecks the brass. I bought a supposedly new and improved buffer spring from PSA and it just made things worse. Have to weigh the buffer I have and see what's what.

You more than likely have a 3oz carbine AR15 buffer and tube. Mine was hitting the reciever extension with the BCG it was so under-dampened, so I ditch the whole thing for a rifle length tube, 5.2oz rifle buffer setup, and spring. There's threads out there on 308AR forum about the early PSAs having this very issue.

My was a early Gen2 and still was having recoil system issues. I fixed that and the gas tube touching the barrel nut and the gun turned into a fine rifle. Worth the price I paid for sure.
