Hello, all. I have a new to me 22br in a 700 action. It has a Jewell t/g and no safety. There is no button in the trigger guard to facilitate the removal of the bolt. Can anyone shed some light as to where I should look or go about removing the bolt? TIA

Got any pics?

It may be as simple as holding the trigger back and pulling the bolt out.

Bolt release in front of the trigger.

If it's not there, just how old a gun is it?
Jewell makes some of them with no safety or bolt release. Most times there is a spot milled out on the side of the receiver.

Perhaps there's a lever on the left side in the action that needs to be pushed down like a Winchester??... otherwise, ya got me, and I'd like to know too.

There has been no release mulled into the side of the action and I do not have a pic of that particular area. There is no lever/button/actuator in the trigger group/guard area like from the factory. I did try pulling the trigger and that doesn’t work. I’m at a loss. I’ll send a pic later this evening. Thanks for all of the replies thus far.

I have a BR gun that you stick a small rod down the left side of the action on to release the bolt
Look for a slot on the rear left side

Didn’t get to go choot this evening so I can’t comment on how well it does but I will get a pic of the trigger in a few and look for the slot as suggested.

I hate to sound ignorant, which given the fact that I am asking clearly shows signs that I am not, but what is the protocol for bedded rifles in regards to removal and re-installation? I see no reason that it cannot be taken out but what about torque specs on the action screws that hold it to the stock? I don’t know what these magic numbers are. I’m overthinking it I know....

Looks like the bolt release screw is there between the two tabs in front of the trigger.

see bottom of page. Part number 2

BOLT RELEASE (OPTIONAL) REMINGTON 700 TYPE
The bolt release is similar to the standard Remington 700 lever, but is made of .050- 4130 Aircraft Grade Sheet Steel It operates on two of the through pins in elongated slots and is returned by the factory provided spring/lever.

65848465-F465-411C-9768-568E76DA5BE3.png I don’t follow. Screw #2, according to their website, adjusts over travel. There is no tab hanging down that I can push up. I have the BR trigger with no safety and no bolt release according to the pics on the site. With that being said, how do I remove the bolt? I’m in a pickle.

Does the original owner know? What about the gunsmith the made it?

I'd find it really odd to spend that kind of time on a rifle to not have some sort of bolt release without having to take it out of the stock. Stranger things I'm sure are out there, but that just seems super odd.

If you can take some other pics of the action on both sides maybe there's something there we haven't picked up on yet?

There has got to be a way to remove it. pull a set screw, push a pin, move a lever.
As mentioned above, there is no lever to depress on the left rear ( inside ) of the action/bolt when its opened?
That's how my XP100 single shot releases.

# 4 here.

PO is a bit....well, eccentric I suppose is a word for him or maybe cuckoo just a bit. Idk how to properly describe him. He probably has some form of ADHD for sure. He is restless and hyper and talked a mile a minute telling me all about the three other bench rest rifles he has and how he likes his 300 WM the best, blah, blah, blah.... Nice cat but he couldn’t slow down long enough to explain to me how he got the bolt out. He said he thought it has the release in the TG but if he has as many as he told me he did, he could very well be mistaken given his demeanor.

Look in the slot on the right side behind the bolt handle, there may be a section of lever to push down on.
Have you tried pushing up on the item in front of the trigger?

I haven’t looked in the safety slot. I will do that when I get home unless Jewell says otherwise.

the suspense is killing me.... :(

Same here!

Call Jewell's number provide above and ask them.

Will do sir!

Jewell is not going to be any help to you. You need to use the end of a pocket knife or small screw driver on the left side of the bolt, opposite the safety(or where the safety would be) to push down on the bolt release to remove the bolt.

Pull the bolt back as far as it will go then do the above and the bolt will come out.
