Hi all,

I am looking at a Remington 700 in 7mm Rem Mag. I found it at the local pawn shop in the city that I work in and it is topped with a Burris Signature Series 4-16x44mm scope, in a synthetic stock. He advised that I can get it for $350 out the door and I am curious about any others on here that may own this rifle and or scope (pros or cons). Also interested in the accuracy that yall got out of yours. It doesn't have to be a .5 MOA gun because I just want something lite to take hunting, but if it was my feeling would not be hurt.

I plan on shooting deer or anything else that needs killing with it. I understand that some may think it would be too much for deer but I am not too concerned about that part. I have bean fields that are 600 plus yards long so delivering the freight is all I am looking for.

Thanks for any help and or info!
Alan

Sounds like a deal to me. A new 700 ADL can be had for $400 ish. That Burris scope was $500. Then you have to buy a base and rings. For $350 I'd be all over that!!

That thing is a hammer. I had a 7mm mag once. You know you are shooting it. But, sounds like a good deal to me.

Whoh now, I would tell you where to go see it but I dont remember street names... thanks for the advise guys! Are there different models of 700s? This one had a tapered barrel and no bottom metal.

That sounds like a 700 ADL which is the baseline 700. I have a wood stocked 700 ADL in 22-250 that is a tack driver.

I think I'm going to grab it and see how she shoots. I would post a pic of it but I cant figure out how. Somebody put the old rattle can job on the stock which dont bother me but it's not been beat up. I just need 1 moa out of it or maybe a little better.

Go and buy yourself a magpul hunter stock, the magwell and some 5 round mags for it with the money you just saved. 7mm mag is a beast and you can hunt anywhere with it in the US and Canada.

Buy it, even if it turns out you don't like it you should have no problem getting your money out of it.

The magpul stocks look very good. I have never laid down behind one tho. Nice stick

True, I believe yall have twisted my arm enough and I'm going to grab it tomorrow while I'm working. Any idea on what weight pill or brand ammo I should start with? I'm not sure of the twist rate and just need something fairly accurate.

Thats actually a .300WM but started out life as a $379 ADL. Spent as much on the stock and mags as I did the rifle. The Hunter stock has an aluminum bedding block that runs from the forearm to the grip. Its an awesome rifle now and way cheaper than Remingtons "Magpul" edition. Plus i used the 870 buttpad adapter and put a nice Limbsaver on it. Its a pussycat to shoot now. I wanna chop and thread the barrel to 21"

I stopped by today and told him that I would pick it up Friday when I'm off work (they frown upon police carrying random rifles in their car) unsure of the twist rate but this one does have a button on the metal trigger guard to drop a metal plate on the bottom and remove the rounds.

That's not an ADL with the floorplate. Sounds like you scored an even better deal!

Freaking sweet! I took some better pics today. If I can figure out how to post them I'll show it off. I'm just hoping it's a shooter.

That's either an ADL with the BDL floorplate conversion or a BDL that had the wood stock swapped out. Either way SCORE!!

The friggin’ scope was worth what you paid for the whole setup. It’s really nice to take advantage of a pawn shop when they don’t know what they’ve got...
Yass! It dont happen often but I'll take it when I can. I'll get some updates as soon as i get to shoot it. Thank yall for all of the help!

Does anyone know of a good hunting round or weight bullet to start with?

DNZ scope mounts too, that's about $50 there..... it's been a long time since I shot 7 mag any at all but the Hornady 139gr btsp or Federal Fusion 140gr loads always worked for me and didn't break the bank.

Ok, I'll start there. Thanks

Alright yall, the budget pawn shop gun should not have any problems killing deer. I know it's a 3 round group, which dont really count but 20 rounds was like 35 bucks lol. Shot this group at 100 yards and zeroed 1.5 inches high and confirmed dead on at 200 yards. Winchester 140 gr ballistic tip was the winner between the 3 types I shot.

Three shot groups are fine, and what you did is excellent. Looks like a winner to me!! Congrats!!

Is that the side of your barn?

Remember they where only kidding when they said you couldn’t hit it’s broad side.

Ok, last question, and I swear ill leave yall alone....maybe. I shot the rifle after cleaning to confirm the cold bore POI with a clean gun and then after I fouled the rifling. I had a hard time getting the bolt to open 3 times. It would lift up with no issues but I had to bump the stock on the ground while my hand was on the bolt to extract the spent shell. I am not sure if this is from over pressure or if the chamber needs to be polished. The head stamp appeared normal and there was no marking on the shell that really caught my attention. Any ideas?
