Remington 700 - 7mm Rem Mag

Winchester Super X 150gr factory ammo

Unfired rounds cycle effortlessly

Fired casings require a little more than a gentle nudge, four letter words, and just short of a sledgehammer to extract. Bolt lifts fine, but no rearward movement. No amount of oil eases it up any. Even tried a little on each round prior to firing.

Cases all have the same mark just above the belt, as seen below.

Would a chamber polish remedy this? Couldn’t hurt I guess? I may just pick up some different ammo and try that as well.

Anyone else experienced this with big green rifles?

.........thats a sign of overpressure. Take a pic of the rear of the case. Things to look for....flattened primer and ejector marks imprinted into the brass. Try a.different brand ammo.....if the new ammo gives no problems......then its your old ammo. If both brands give the same issues, rifle problem.

I’m hoping this isn’t the case, I may just have to take it to someone more knowledgable than me to to take a look at it.

A different ammo make could "solve" the issue but it should accept any off the shelf ammo. How long have YOU had the gun??

I’ve only had it a few weeks, purchased ANIB from a member here. Put 11 rounds through it thus far.

Head space issue....
Yep, could be ^^^^^
If another box of quality ammo does the same thing don't shoot it until you get it to a doctor. It's pretty rare that a factory round would be that much out of spec but it does happen.
Also, don't oil the chamber or put oil on the rounds (if I'm understanding what you did correctly).

As above.....if the primers are pushed out above the case.....overpressure. Maybe a headspace issue?? If that turns out to be the issue (bad ammo), email those pics and the lot number to winchester. Thats a potentially dangerous situation.

Had this happening with CBC/Magtech brand .308 ammo. Brass was REALLY soft and overpowered; it would swell and stick in the chamber. Switched brass brands and no troubles

I had same similar issue with a brand new Rem 700 PSS in 308. I cleaned the bore and chamber with a bronze brush and solvent of course and the problem went away. Also, took to my gunsmith and he had go/no go 308 gauges. Bolt would close on both. Thx Remington. Like I said, I cleaned the heck out of it with a brush and have had no more sticky bolts. I shoot factory Fed GMM and my reloads with Hornady ELDM's, no problem now.

May be looking on the wrong end. Some of the crimp folds do not iron out from firing and can cause problems for the extraction.

The primers look flush. Gotta remember a 7 Mag headspaces on the belt, not the shoulder. I would try another brand of good quality ammo and see what happens. I think you've got a softer batch of brass and not getting any springback. A really good chamber cleaning would also be a good idea.

Well, I had some free time today so I took the spent cases, inserted them in the chamber, closed the bolt, and yep, still stuck. Used a bore brush, mop, solvent, and a drill and set to giving it a good cleaning. This should have been step one before it even left the house the first time. Won’t make that mistake again.

Tried a couple more spent cases, definitely a huge difference. Just a little more effort than an empty chamber to pull and extract. We’ll see if thats still the case with a freshly fired case rather than one that was previously extracted.

Thanks for all the advice and helpful responses!

Good luck!!!

Some metal parts will come from the factory with a protective coating (cosmoline comes to mind) to keep them from corroding. I stuck a few of brass cases by forgetting to clean the coating from reloading dies once. Couldnt figure out what I was doing wrong......but it was so simple!

Also, a chamber polish can't hurt as long as it is JUST a polish and no metal removed. I've had to do this on a couple Handi's

No oil in action or bolt to much will cause the bolt to stick in a bolt gun.

Yeah a nice 2-3 min spin with a drill and polish with a .410 mop and some Nu Finish and they'll slide out of the chamber just as nice as they go in. You have a mass produced rifle.....its gonna feel like one

Finally got the chance to shoot this again this past weekend. Tried the same ammo that was sticking, and zero issues. Thanks again folks!

It took me a long time to not over think stuff...always try the simple things first. Glad I read all the way to the end before posting. My First instinct is clean the chamber...First. Glad you worked it out.
