I have to say, this is pretty color. Not the first one to do this but first mass produce that's not Russian, maybe?

Pretty cool!!! I can see this developing in to a platform used in 3-gun competitions but in a semi auto like the Versa Max instead of a pump. Instead of the broom stick long mag tubes where two shells are typically loaded up at a time, a simple drop of the empty mag and load up a new one can make for really quick times.

I wonder if they'll managed to produce a shotshell magazine that actually works and doesn't fall apart in use? That was the weak link when I played around with box-mag shotguns.

Hmmm...

Wonder how much effort it would be to modify the tube so you could chop the barrel and tube and remount the forend.

And I have to assume there's nothing in the design that would prevent loading one shell and then topping off the mag?

no reason you couldn't chop it at all.

I would be surprise if you couldn't load one in the chamber and top off the mag.

Cool. My favorite shotgun is the 870. There's been one loaded sitting by my bed since I was 12. I like this. I've wanted a mag fed shotgun.

Well it looks dumb, but I guess if it works someone will like it. I see more use in a semi auto on the gamer side of life.
Is that a paddle mag release on the front of the well? Nice feature if you're throwing it up on some kinda support or your hand slips.

Unfortunately, I believe it would bump you to Open Division, where you will get slaughtered by Auto guns with much bigger magazines.

I am going full on fudd with this one. Why in the name of all that is holy do they have to keep gang f*cking what once was the most beautiful pump gun ever made? There is no need/reason to have a mag fed 870---why couldn't mossturd have done this? Given that they put rails on a lever gun I figured this would be right up mossturds alley. I am going home to cry over my collection of Wingmasters.

100% agree
but this product fits Freedom Group's vision of selling novelty guns to people who buy much and shoot little.

Not sure if I agree or not, but I like this rant. Wingmasters are indeed a fine, fine gun.

Basically this rant is a metaphor for Remington in general.

Old Remmy: finely blued and smoooooth Wingers.

New Remmy: 700's that go off, R-51's, and Marlins with banana clipz!!

They should have introduced a different pump action model for this.

To bastardize the legendary 870 platform seems typical of the shallow-thinking mouth-breathers at Remington these days.
It sounds like mag tube 870's will still be made.

But it does add some confusion and a different model number would have been preferable, but clearly Remington wants to milk the value of the 870 name. Hopefully the detachable mag versions work well and don't sully the 870's reputation.

ftfy.

I have an 1100 that was made in 1956 and it STILL runs like a sewing machine. Newer [insert new remington product here]...well..?

tbh, i dont think ill ever buy another Remington product unless it's older than i am.

I didn't think the 1100 came out until the early '60's.

Sweet!

Odds that Remington would be willing to join Mossberg or Black Aces in pushing the envelope? Seems unlikely.

What are you asking here? I'm a little under the weather and need it spelled out for me.

My Rem rep called me to ask if I wanted one added to my program. I declined because I see no sporting purpose of the detachable magazine in the field. ALL shotguns must be plugged when hunting migratory birds to limit capacity to 3 anyway. That leaves the game players and I'm not sure the R&D was worth it just for that market.
