I have a LEO trade in G22 that still has fairly well working night sights, but the front one seems dimmer than the rears. I thought I'd order a new front sight only and it has just arrived...but I have zero idea of how to swap it out. I've heard there is a Glock sight removal tool. Is that what I need and will it be obvious how to use it, or is there another way if I'm just going to trash it anyway (or does anyone want a halfway gone front night sight)?

This is the sight, it says it only takes a nut driver to install but I'm sure that's with the other one gone.

I took mine to Powers in Greensboro to replace both and charged me $20.

The front sight is screw on. Field strip it, pull the barrel out and you should see a machine screw on the inside of the slide. Screw that out with a set of needle nose pliers and reverse the process with the new sight. Alot of people have a specific tool for it, but it's pretty easy to get in and out without it.

It may require a little heat.....alot of aftermarket sights are installed with lock tite.

If you have a 3/16 nut driver that should do it, it’s a flat little hex head screw that screws in to the bottom of the sight, piece of cake to do at home.

I’ll start the pot stirring, don’t forget to apply a small drop of thread lock. Some say 242 Blue others say 271 Red ... I like 271 and if ever need to remove it I can heat the screw from the bottom with a soldering iron to break its hold.

It is not uncommon to need to hit a socket or nutdriver with a grinder to remove the bevel so it will actually catch the very thin Glock screw.
IIRC I had to do the same to the hex bit allegedly purpose made for the job.

Some original glock front sights are flared on the bottum and do not have a screw to remove them. If this is what you have simply knock it out from the inside of the slide with a hammer and punch and the new one will be held in with the fore mentioned screw.

Correct, flip your slide over and look at the front sight. Is it swagged in or does it have a screw. Glock does make a front sight tool for about $20 or you can do what others have suggest by taking a $1 3/16" nut driver and grinding it down on a bench grinder. That's what I did here.

So what size of nut driver fits this? LOL

These are factory Glock night sites, they have a Glock symbol on the top and MH3 on the front.

Sorry I missed this earlier. I'll try and punch it out.

If you wanna make your own nut driver this is what you'll need to do. A regular nut driver is way too fat to fit inside the recess of the slide the sight bolt fits in.
If you have the time to wait for shipping, just buy the special glock sight tool for less than 10 bucks. It's not a chevy head bolt and doesn't require 90 lbs of torque. It's built for the job and works very well.

That's what you're gonna hafta do, or have someone else do it.

I ain't no Glocksmith, but that looks like a fine swaging!

If I were to try & remove that, I'd get a dremel cylindrical grinding wheel, come in through the barrel opening, & carefully remove the "lip" around the oblong hole - without cutting into the slide surrounding the hole. When enough material was removed, I'd grab the front sight with small needle nose pliers from above & work it out. If done correctly, I wouldn't have damaged the edges of the hole or the underside of the slide.

The new sight should have a "tenon" shaped like the oblong hole in the slide & be fastened with a very flat hex-head screw, which I would install using a ground-down socket on a nut driver (which I happen to have) & some Loctite.

YMMV.

Use a small straight blade screwdriver and punch it out from the bottom. The new front sight will have a screw.

If you are near the middle of SC (or fairly close) I have a front sight nutdriver tool you can use....
