What's the bestest way?
I've done this before years ago. But the nut wasn't really staked that hard and with a little prompting it spun off without complaining too much.
Got a new buttstock and tube on the way for an AR10 and gonna have to do it again. Is there a super trick that makes it smoother rather than just forcing the issue?
I can re-stake the nut after reassembly, no problem.

I haven't had your specific problem, but I've used my induction nut heater (automotive service tool) to remove several seized muzzle thread-protectors in the past.
