I'm looking at a CVA in-line rifle that's coming without a charging rod. Should I get a CVA one or is there a recommended alternative?

There really isn’t anything special about a ramrod. Order by material, diameter, length and thread pitch. I’d recommend something other than wood if it’s for hunting use.

If they make one for your barrel length the CVA Palmsaver ramrods are handy for field reloads.
This. Best thing for a muzzleloader that’s come out in a while

Ok, this is a stupid question- but how long a rod do I get? My barrel from plug to muzzle is 26"

Would this work? (27") It says the actual rod is 24" with an extension.

I'll go measure mine in a bit.

Mine is 26" to the frame. Measuring on the outside.

I use the TC Power Rod that will fold into a "t-handle" on every inline that I own (CVA Wolf and Optima V1). I use a small tubing cutter to trim mine and then a drop of glue that holds the threaded insert. When I need to clean or load I just thread a brass jag onto it and go.

However I got mine at Walmart around this time of year when they clearance them out. But I stopped shopping there.

Ok- I got the replacement charging rod- and it came with a 4" screw-in 50-cal bullet pusher. Except- that makes it 4" longer than the sleeve under the muzzle. And- it doesn't stay in- it rattles. I think they sent me the wrong end- the end I got is a full 50-cal (1/2") width and would not fit into that sleeve regardless. What am I missing?

I dot store mine in the gun with the extension on. The rod, without extension is the right length and shape to reload in the field. The extension is for cleaning

The end of my rod is just a threaded insert- and it doesn't stay in the sleeve. I'll post some pictures- thanks.

A bit of 550 cord or a leather thong tied through an eyelet is a great way to take up slack and keep the ramrod from rattling around.
