I went to put a rail on an AR hand-guard.
To mount it, I had to take the guard off the gun and stripped out a screw holding the guard to the barrel nut.
Are those screws usually a standard size from hand-guard to hand-guard?
If so, do most gunsmiths have the screws in stock or do you think that I will have to go back to the manufacture of the guard?

Did you destroy the screw or strip out the hole in the barrel nut? Also what brand, the one I have looks like it uses standard 1/4” cap screws as available from any hardware store.

JimB, they are stripped in the torx head. Got 2 of the 3 out. Wanting to replace all 3 with better screws. The guard was on the upper that I got from Primary Arms 10.5" 300 BO.

Well that’s the best problem to have. They probably used crappy cap screws because cheap and because it limits torque for people that don’t have a torque wrench, so the screw goes before the hole gets stripped.

I’d be willing to bet that you can get replacements at Home Depot.

And this is what you use to get the screw out. Best $20 I ever spent. Well close anyway.
