So, I love shooting DA revolvers (I would like it more if I were good at it). I have my eye on an older PPC gun that seems tight but needs some cosmetic help. In the interest of justifying the purchase to myself, are there matches that I could use this in, some kind of IPSC/USPSA/whatever?
I am under the impression that PPC is more or less defunct and no ICORE anywhere near that I am aware of. It's a 6-inch K frame .357 S&W with a fat barrel and Aristocrat sight rib, so IDPA is out for this thing.

Thanks for the help.

Both IDPA and USPSA have Revolver divisions, so you're good to go at any club match.

They both have their own rulesets for Revo, so you'll want to make sure your blaster fits within the rules if you want to shoot anything above a club match.

What part of the state are you in?

Like you, I like shooting a DA revolver they way they were meant to be shot. A couple of years ago I was in a pawn shop and there was a Jim Clark and a Bill Davis PPC gun. Both were built on S&W Model 10 frames, both had actions that dreams were made of. And, both were priced at much less than what the custom work cost the original owner. The guy at the shop said they had been there a long time and he would make a deal on either one. I studied long and hard on the Jim Clark gun but talked myself out of it. I wish I had bought it.

Not far from Sanford. I don't mind driving some to shoot a match, but this is a big gun, I don't think it would work for IDPA. I was thinking (assuming?) that it could work for USPSA, but not sure where to start.

Go to USPSA's website, read the appendix about revolver div determine if gun fits. Courses of fire max at 32 required rounds, gear up. CGGR runs a big lvl 1 match not far from Sanford. There's probably others. Pretty sure someone here shoots revo on occasion.
They're always welcome at PHA's defensive pistol match, but that's a bit of a drive.

That's the situation I am in, except this one is .357. It needs a good bit of work to dress it up, a new set of grips, etc... but I am having a hard time shaking the thoughts of ringing 50 yard steel targets on the back yard range and reaching out to the 80 yard gong, with what I think is the easiest caliber to reload(.38/357)

John Z (the guy who runs the Zombie Shooters Assoc matches) is trying to start a local ICORE match. Whenever that happens you can rest assured that I'll be there with my 986.

I'm sure @Slacker will be there to show us how it's done.

I PMed @johnz to check on the ICORE matches, but scanning through the posts, it looks like it isn't happening. I bought the gun anyway, so if nothing else, it will be a hoot plunking in the back yard range. Thanks for the help. Maybe revolver comps just aren't in the cards for me.
