Revolver Picture Thread

I love this thread as it leaves me drooling and helps me relive the past with my dad who was a die-hard revolver lover. Nice job guys.

I watched my dad and his close friends swap, buy, sell these old revolvers throughout the 60's, 70's, and till '83..........so many of the older revolvers in this thread just take me back in time and help me remember their exact comments as they fondled them. Those were the days.

I have two of his revolvers and several of his long guns in safe keeping to pass along to my son. I couldn't see myself doing anything different and I trust they'll mean as much to him as they have to me.

Yeah, the stag grips and Tyler sealed the deal for me. Here are some additional picturess. Outside photos, @Cocked & Locked style.

I know that some day my daughter is going to find herself with a really nice revolver collection. It is getting quite large and I don't expect her to keep all of them...just maybe a few of my favorites, and her favorites. Really excited to share my interest / hobby with her. She's only 6 months old but I tote her around to the gun shows, gun shops, pawn shops, parking lot gun deals, etc. There is no assurance of any long-term interest but it would be nice if she developed the same types of good memories that you describe. I bought her a 2017 Colt Cobra so that she could have one from the year that she was born. Also, it's stainless for diaper carry.

Awesome planning there Ryan and it's great that you've started the early bonding and sharing with your daughter as this will pay huge dividends in the future. Trust me on this and spend every moment you can with her as time doesn't stop for any of us.

Just dropping a thought here, but have you thought about having someone to do a laser etching or engraving on the 2017 Colt? You could include her name and birthdate or something along those line to make this a keepsake for generations to come hopefully.

In fact, I have thought about it. Not sure what to do if anything. Tar Heel State Firearms is my regular FFL and it does very detailed engraving. Just a few miles away. Maybe something like, "To Olivia, from Daddy" and then another line, "Boyfriends shot" followed by a bunch of hash marks.

I have a lot of 1975 revolvers. Here is her 2017 next to a 1975 Cobra:

Rescued a 1968 Smith & Wesson Model 10-5 from a pawn shop today. It shows honest bluing wear. The spots if paint on the front and rear sights, Tyler T and stags tell me that this revolver rode along with somebody for years. It's not a safe queen. Has lots of character and a nice trigger pull. Have not popped off the stags to ID the maker but very good fit and finish. More pics to follow.

TONS of character ! I'd love to find something like this!

Well, the Precision Hideout Grips arrived today. These fill the hand better than factory magnas and also stop at the frame's bottom for concealment. This is the "smooth" variety. My initial impression is not great. First, they feel flimsy and light. Makes a solid steel K Frame feel top heavy. Second, the off balance feel combined with hard and smooth grips seems like a bad combo for full .357 loads. That said, I could see this working on a J Frame. These grips would be better in solid rubber...sort of like Pachmayr grips.

Bought two sets. Will probably just drop them in the "grip box" as a revolver history unless somebody is interested.

Very excited. Just bought a Smith & Wesson Model 64-3 NY-1 with a 4" barrel and ROUND BUTT. This is a less common variant. A little more than 900 manufactured. Will come with box and at least some docs. It's on its way down from a gun shop in New York. Pics to follow. @TARHEELSTATE , it's coming your way :)

Outstanding! The NY-1s w/ round butts and bobbed hammer are a fantastic service revolver. With the round butt and bobbed hammer, it'll carry like a snub but make full use of it's ctg. Great find!

Now you must find the Ruger NY-1 GP100s in both 3 & 4 inch.

This on
Really nice. Is that early 50's production? You gonna shoot it?
It is actually a 1955 Model 55.(I thought that was quite cool.) I have already shot it. Great shooting little gun. Best part is a bought it from a dear friend who will more than likely not be around much longer. Now every time I shoot it I will always remember him... :)

Nice...sounds like one of the pencil barrel guns aka tapered barrel.

Nice. I had only one Ruger NY gun, this relatively rare GF-84NYCPD, DAO .38 Special. Sold it a few months ago because I wanted to focus on S&W NY guns.

This discussion about NY-1s sent me to the safe. Looks like a Model 64 NY-1, round butt, 3" barrel will do bedside duty tonight. It's funny, just noticed the etching on the crane "047." Wonder what that's about? Badge number maybe?

EDIT: Folks over at the S&W Forum are saying that '047 or D47" an assembly number and should also be on the grip. Too lazy to remove the grip and check.

Sweet guns. I had a Smith Model 64 3" RB NY-1. It was a very smooth DAO round gun. I picked mine up in at a gun show in Kentucky mid 90s. Wish I still had that revolver.

Heck no!

The NYPD service revolver has been on duty for over a century. It's had a great ride and has set a historic service record that I believe won't be matched in this century, nor probably even the next.

The NYPD service revolver can now be retired with the highest honors.

I want to thank my friend Larry a/k/a @Geezer for this really nice 3" K Frame holster by Alfonso's of Hollywood. Thanks buddy [emoji4]

Alfonso's custom leather shop is part of revolver history, particularly on the west coast and with LAPD officers. It's a classic and my only Alfonso's rig. A couple notes: It is extraordinarily comfortable. Rides high but not too high. Conceals under an untucked shirt / sweatshirt. I was initially put off by the uncovered trigger guard (and still a bit concerned) but the leather strap holds the hammer down HARD and the holster is out of the way. It feel safe.

Again, really appreciate Larry sending this my way. It will go into my colder weather carry rotation. Her it is with a 3" Smith & Wesson Model 10-7.

Have this Strong's Leather Co. pancake holster coming from a current NYPD detective. It was designed for the spurless NYPD guns.

That's quite an impressive lineup and cool way to stage a photo. May have to steal that technique. Some heavy duty firepower there :)

Following up on my post above about the Strong Leather Company holsters for DAO K Frame Smiths, like the NY-1...here is a closeup. The thumb break lays on the flat spurless hammer:

New IWB holster for the Kimber K6 arrived today from TT Gunleather. Specifically molded for the Kimber but works just as well for a Detective Special / Cobra or S&W J Frame.

Wan' make a quick $50 sailor?
That is very nice, I sold one just like it for $500 several years ago and regret it every time I see another.

This is a Smith & Wesson Model 36 (no dash) wearing Herrett's Shooting Ace grips. A comfortable classic combo. Had the snub for awhile but the grips arrived today.

The Shooting Ace grips are great for carry because they fill the hand but are flat. Minimizes printing.
