Right now I'm at Fort Shenandoah in Winchester VA. It's about 50f. The smell of campfires is in the air. A bunch of guys down the hill are playing Civil War field music on fifes and drums and they're good.

We shot in two matches today. In A2 Carbine we placed 12th out of 30. Not our best but not the worst either. We did better in artillery, 2nd by 2pts in Rifled Howitzers. Topped off my powder supply, had dinner with friends and looking forward to musket match tomorrow.

Pics please.........

Pix tomorrow as my phone won't let me upload them. It's old like me.

They just finished Dixie and Yellow Rose of Texas and now are playing Bonnie Blue Flag.

Early morning Carbine match had a touch of the "fog of war" with smoke obscuring the target arrays. Those shooting peep sights were at a disadvantage. I used a1858 Enfield musketoon with post and notch

I would like to get into muskets, a friend that is a member here and I used to talk about them a lot but I never get around to buying one.

This morning the fifes and drums marched into the range with a column under arms. My dad and I watched while eating a biscuit. Pretty cool.

This morning we're second relay of three shooting five events in muskets. 57 firing points are in use. We just finished event 2, second relay. We cleaned our target array in 120 seconds for 16 targets.

How’d you do on the pigeon board?
Full time left 4. Lots of smoke and a couple new guys. Cleaned tiles. Cleaned hanging pigeons. Pots full time left 3. 100yd cleaned 180 seconds.

Don't know final score yet. On the road back home

Pix as promised

Carbine match at 8a, 1st relay. The smoke was hanging in the valley making things interesting.

Note that this is position 62 looking back to position one. Only one of 4 control towers was visible. How's that for the "fog of war"

Oh yeah, just behind our position waiting to enter for the artillery match.

The view to the right of our howitzer. I was too busy to take more pix as we were a bit short on the crew and I had to perform #1 & 2 on the gun with the worm, brush and sponge. Course of fire was 14 shots in 1 hour and I was in and out the bore 4 times per shot. Worm first. Brush bore. Mop bore. Dry mop bore. Load. We finished 2nd by 2 points. One more point and we would have tied in score but won on X ring count, two and we would have won outright. That's what happens when a flyer opens the group up with a hit outside the black.

Saturday night was one of those times that many of us in the N-SSA black powder shooting love. With the field music wafting through the camp, I had returned from shopping at the sutlers, we were sitting around our campfire with friends and team mates sharing stories and adult beverages. Next we went over to visit with other campfires and friends on other teams. With adult beverages in hand, competition smack talking was flowing strong. The sky was a black velvet canopy of stars punctuated by the occasional meteor.
