Thinking about getting one and maybe a spotlight cam. Does anyone have this that can say good or bad?
I am not a huge fan of the monthly charge to be able to record but it’s only 3-10 a month and I would be getting it as a gift from MIL so ....

Be aware that ring will share your feed with the cops and probably others without your consent. Just pointing it out in case that is an issue to you.

I installed two for my mom sometime in the last year or so. She got them as a gift. Not sure if they’re the “2” models or not. Haven’t messed with them much after installing them.

However, I was pretty impressed by this video. Somebody on Nextdoor posted it to ask if it was a fox or a cat. I thought the clarity was outstanding for a doorbell cam. ETA: maybe that’s a floodlight cam?

We have just the doorbell. You may have to change out your doorbell transformer - 10A to 30A (or something like that, don't remember exactly). The smaller one usually installed in homes doesn't generate enough to power the doorbell and the wi-fi hub. Not a big deal but takes a little extra time and effort.

Be sure to take the extra time to define the activation area for alerting. It has the ability to select the area of the image that it alerts on and that will save you the headache of having the thing go off everytime a shadow moves in the wind.

We haven't signed on to their "neighborhoods" functionality but they still send vague stories about stuff supposedly happening around you.

The phone app is easy to install and gives good functionality (once the alerting is controlled). It's nice to be able to see what's going on and to be able to thank the delivery guy from work.

    Happy Thanksgiving.

Which model? I've been thinking about one of these.

My girlfriend had me put up a Ring Doorbell. It is the recharge type and is not wired to the doorbell. We only have it sending to the apps we have on her phone and my ipad. It works great and is very clear with the video. The only think I don't like is the sensitivity seems to change. One day it will catch every car going down the road and other days nothing, but I'd rather have it too sensitive than not enough. We've had 2 questionable people come around when we were at work and ring doorbell and look around suspiciously. The video of both of them is clear as a bell and would be very easily to identify to the cops. At night, it is clear, but not as clear as daylight of course. It would be a little harder to identify someone but I think it would be fine for the cops. I would have to say overall I'm pretty impressed

Thanks all for the responses. Looks like everyone has mostly positive comments so I think I will get the ring 2 and then maybe get a flood light for backyard.
Thank for the responses. Merry thanksgiving!

I have the Ring Pro and have not had a problem with it (about a year) until my mess network went down which it was hooked into. Had to reprogram it using the main network in the house. I would buy it again.

We went with Nest and love them. Starting next year they’ve announced much cheaper pricing to store your recordings than what they charge now.

So are you able to store selected videos on your laptop? Or do you only see what's live and if you want storage you have to pay the cloud storage monthly fee?

To be honest, I don't know. My girlfriend does all that. All I do is look when I get an alert on my ipad. I know the videos can be stored, but not sure what if any fee is involved. I'll ask tomorrow and let you know

    Ring info here: https://shop.ring.com/pages/faq

I have the Nest, $100 a year for two weeks of video storage. I could have put my own cams up and stored it at home,
the electric bill would be more then $100 for the PC and a UPS to keep it running if power went out, approx. $476 a year.

My Ringpro works for awhile then stops working for a month or 2. Useless POS in my opinion.

Installed 2 Ring Doorbell 2 units a couple months ago. Have had no issues. Hard wired my units. I suggest you fully charge the batteries before install, even on hard wire. Didn't charge mine, but they had enough juice to go through setup. It took them a month to charge fully from the hardwire feed.
