Took my 16 year old over to the range tonight to shoot some rimfire. She has never handled a rifle or shot one before. Have a new CZ 452 Aemerican with a Sightron 4-12 AO scope on it. I got it sighted in at 25' and then thought I'd run her through the basics and let her work the bolt and put some holes in the paper. Goal was safety and fun. She has shot 22lr pistols so the basic safety rules are in her brain.

Based on that last picture I am not sure I am getting my rifle back. Guess next time we can move out to 50'. Once we figured/remembered she is left eye domnant she figured out how to get comfortable and get consistent.

Very cool! My girl is also right handed, left eye dominant. She does fine on a handgun but I don't think she's ever shot a rifle. I might need to remedy that soon!

She was very comfortable shooting lefty on a bench. Not sure how that would work in a field situation but she'll likely never hunt so probably not a big deal. She just likes target shooting and making small groups.

That would be Jennifer. She'll never hunt, I just want her to be able to handle different weapons.

Yep. I told my wife once that even if the girls don't decide to shoot or carry on a regular basis, knowing how to safely handle and possibly clear a weapon in a bad situation aren't bad skills to have. Maybe some irresponsible dumbass will show up at a party or house someday with a loaded weapon. Well, I intend at the least my girls can clear it and safely put it away. Or use it if need be.

Mine is away at college, studying for her Masters. She shoot her Walter really well and can handle her G42 like a champ. At 25 feet she's deadly!

I've got her fiancé shooting with me also. The boy never picked up a gun in his life. He now shoots regularly and I've given him a Sig 9mm, a 12 gauge tactical shotgun and a .22 597 Remington rifle. The next thing is an AR. He's protecting my little girl! I set him up with ammo, a tactical belt and pouches, a Surefire flashlight, a case pocketknife, a range bag and 6-7 mags for the rifle and pistol. He's bought a Browning Buckmark since then. The boy's got great potential!

Well, maybe you should fund a training class for him with Boyette next! All that equipment only helps so much.

I know that place. Even though I paid to be a member at TSA, this is my go to place for sighting in, rimfire, or just those rainy weekends.

That looks like some fun being had!

How did you let her get to 16 without shooting a rifle ?

Mike

She has shot pistols a few times. She is too busy. She usually has volleyball several times a week. Tournament sor practiceon the weekends. Lots of travel tournaments for 3 or 4 days. Plus I have traveled for work most of my life so I am not home during the week. Now she is working too so she is slammed. But that leaves no time for horn dog teenage boys right now. :D

Good on you for teaching her. My wife comes from a hunting and shooting family and nobody ever tried to teach her. I taught her on my single shot .22. She enjoys shooting handguns now.
