Can be done by hand in a drill press or on a lathe if you have it. I usually use the drill press and run the cylinder in both directions by reversing the cylinder on the spud from time to time.

Just a light round over is needed to break the often sharp edge or 45 degree bevel. Slow speed and a sharp file and the half moons appear between the flutes. Trick is not to round over into the mouths of the cylinder. A more aggressive round over can be done on small caliber cylinders but on this 45 acp, it still looks fine with a rounded edge. Finish it off polishing while rotating both directions with what ever grit suits ya.

There is no performance value, not even as oft touted, easing entry into the holster. I just like the looks of a rounded leading edge on the cylinder better than a 90 degree edge or 45 degree bevel.

While I was at it, I lightly refinished the cylinder to match the recently refinished barrel. (I'll get to the frame later, still debating on scalloping the recoil shield and loading gate, so no rush to finish the frame at this time.)
