Any thoughts or experience on a ruger 1911 commander light weight model in 45? I have a chance to pick up for what I think is a pretty good price from a family member. If it has been shot, it hasn't been much. Comes with box, papers, and magazines.

I'm not a 1911 fan, but I did own the cmd version (not LW) and I really liked the accuracy of it, was a tack driver easily out to 15 yards.

No experience with a 1911 lightweight but my experience with heavy caliber lightweight guns has not been positive. Not sure that a 1911 would have the same issue of poor recoil distribution.

Since it's a family member I would ask if I could shoot it first. You'll know on the first couple of rounds if it's too light to manage the recoil.

Owned one, recoil was less than pleasant, another thing that was brought up in another discussion we had on these guns, was that the plunger tube is cast on the frame, not staked , and a damaged plunger tube could be a pain

All good info. I might see if I can borrow it first. Thank you.

I just picked up a full size ruger 1911 version with all its weight. It's not exactly what you're looking for but you're welcome to borrow to do a side by side comparison.

had a full size ruger 1911 and the cmdr model...not the light version....never had a problem with either, but sold the 5" and kept the 4 3/4 because the commander was more accurate for me....I don't know if it is balance or what, it is just more accurate
