Ruger 57

I am so effing happy right now I'm doing a little happy dance.

I sold my FN a few years ago when there was an impending embargo on Ammo importation. Never really liked the FN anyway.

And then I couldn't afford to buy one back since everyone wanted $1200 for them.

Have you bought one yet? Or going to? I missed one at my LGS the other day by about 3 hours...

No not yet. Going to have to save some money or sell something first.

I was recently discussing the round with my father, and I expressed that I would like to have the Fn, but never felt it was worth the price they are asking for them. This one does catch my attention, but honestly with the nature of politics lately the thought of picking up YET another caliber to start stacking seems daunting.

I hear ya....
But the 5.7x28, at least to me, is more of a recreational caliber. It is stupid fun to shoot, and to get a Ruger in that caliber is just icing on me cupcake. Would be AWESOME if the 57 takes off like a rocket and they make a carbine that uses the same magazine.

For my preps and stash, 9mm, 10mm, .223, and 22LR.

Oh, I hear ya, its exactly how I feel about the .300AAC. I love the caliber. Love my little AR pistol I built to shoot it. But keeping even a tolerable plinking amount on hand adds up at .40 per round!

If I hadn't gone down the .300 rabbit hole I may be more open to the new caliber. My hope is that with a new platform the demand for the ammo will go up, and more players will enter the field loading for it. Just as .300AAC has been going down in price, hopefully this will as well.

Still selling mine less than that.

I am not in the market. A good friend of mine had one and it was fun to shoot for a while but it was so expensive to feed and didn’t do anything for the extra cost to shoot.

It will be interesting to see where the price in the Ruger settles out and if more people starts making the ammo.

Okay, so I’m pulling the trigger on this tomorrow....
Anybody see any reason not to?

@amnesia I still want the 5.7 you have, but don’t know when I’ll get anywhere near Rutherford unless we can rustle up a courier......

1. What price are you buying at?

2. Do you care if you are an early adopter and then they start blowing up, and you have to send yours back in for warranty work over and over again?

You don't wanna buy too high or too early...

1. $599.00

2. Nope. Somebody gotta be the guinea pig!!

I like the 5.7x28 round, and don’t mind the issues associated with a niche round. It’s a hoot to shoot!! And way cheaper than 50BMG!!

We're not worried about the round. We're worried about the frame, trigger assembly, barrel, slide, sights, and safeties built into a brand new weapon.

That's like saying... I'm going to buy the 2021 Chevrolet Dingus Half Cylinder Baxingus Engine Coupe... I'm not afraid of Gas... It's good stuff, no matter what the diesel idiots say...

Is there really all that much interest in that little varmint cartridge, which is over-rated in a pistol?

Wasn't it developed for piercing ceramic body armor?
Isn't it down-loaded for civilian use?
Isn't it expensive?
Varmint cartridge? Every person shot at Fort Hood at center mass from a 5.7 bullet, died. I have a 5.7 and love how it shoots.

Pretty sure Ruger wouldn’t release it if all that was wrong with it...jeez. I have NEVER.....EVER had any issues with ANY Ruger I have ever owned. Maybe I’m just lucky....

And I wouldn’t buy a Chevrolet in the first place.

I like Rugers, and I like 5.7, so we’re gonna give it a whirl....

It doesn’t appear you’ve owned a Ruger.
They don’t come as polished pieces of art, and their lawyers make sure they’re overbuilt and the triggers are way to heavy. Companies like Volquartzen and Kidd make Ruger’s great.

You are easily triggered... I apologize!
However, following my snarky question were three more...

If you snooze you lose....
2 LGS’s had them last week, but gone today.
I’ll get the next one Jim’s gets.

These are confirmed crapboxes my former employer and LGS has already had to return 2 of the first 3 to ruger. Trigger reset issues, internals etc... sticking with my FN Five-Seven

Ok...picked one up at the LGS yesterday, and me and the kid put a 100 through it....
Wow!! Damn fine job, Ruger!! LOVE IT!!

IMHO, it feels better in my hand than the FN, and I like the target sights on the Ruger better. Ambi safety is also very 1911-ish, so muscle memory is already there.

And it’s just a few ounces heavier than the FN.

Hate to say it, but FN is probably gonna feel the impact in their 5.7 sales.

Don’t be surprised if Ruger spawns a carbine that uses the same magazine....

I got to shoot one of these at the range in Belmont today with the missus.

Only real complaint I have is the grip texture could be a little more aggressive but otherwise the thing shot great. Very mold recoil.

If they make a compact version ever I'll have to add it to my collection.

Im at the beginning of that rabbit hole (built the AR pistol and love it, but haven't stacked up ammo yet) and didn't do my due diligence on ammo prices out of sheer enthusiasm lol.

Hopefully Wolf will start shipping cheap 300 soon! This does give me an excuse for a 9mm alternative for cheap plinking.

What I am really reading, and what makes me the most happy, is that the troubles of your past year seem to be behind you. You are now building your collection back, investing in your hobbies, and the days of having to part with your belongings are over!

And as far as Wolf hurrying up, I totally hope so. For me (at least) .300 is a fun blasting round and I don't ever really see going further than 100 yards with it in an AR pistol. So being able to drop even less than $10 per magazine worth of ammo would be awesome. As it is, every trigger pull stings just a wee bit.

I agree on both points!

Congrats to @NCLivingBrit !

And, every time I pull the trigger on my 300bk pistol it's like throwing .50 down a well... The week of Thanksgiving, I had family in town, including my 12yo nephew. He wanted to kill his first deer at my house, but before doing so I took him to the range to teach him some gun safety and weapons handling with my 300bo pistol (the gun I was gonna let him hunt with) . We start off with him shooting it from a rest. He's doing good. Then, I tell him to take a few shots standing, unsupported.... I DID NOT MEAN SHOOT 20 ROUNDS AS FAST AS YOU CAN!

But that's what happened. And that's when we packed up to go home. I wasn't mad at him. Just sad to see $10 disappear in 3 seconds....

It's the essential dichotomy of shooting. Make bang good. Bang money gone bad.

So far I am loving the 300BO. Going to burn some money when my steel arrives that's for sure lol

I looked at one at the LGS today. I think they will have a winner for those that like the round. It does not do a lot of me but they seem to have made some improvements while bringing the price down. The safety was 1000X better than the FN safety. It will be interesting what the price settles out at. They had it marked at $699.

I'll buy one when I see it for $600.

If anyone buys one I've got a metric ton of ammo you can purchase.

Wish you were closer.

I've been reading the reviews of this new Ruger before finalizing my decision. Used to own the FN version and miss it sometimes. I may just have to pick up the Ruger when we get back from vacation next month.

I just don't see that much utility in suppressing lightweight supersonic calibers. This reminds me of suppressing 5.56/.223. Sure you can make subs but you have removed the vast majority of its effectiveness, unlike with 9mm or 300blk for example. Otherwise it will never be quiet, only quiet-er and you'll probably still need hearing protection.
