A good bird hunting buddy of mine purchased his first rifle last year to deer hunt with and maybe try his hand at shooting a little bit beyond is comfort zone of 40 yards. He bought a Ruger American Predator at Wally World on sale in 6.5 Creedmoor and I suggested that he pick up a 12X SWFA scope with rings and bases. So, he has about $700 in his rig not counting a few boxes of ammo. We took it out last weekend and sighted everything in and he starting plinking at some of our steel targets. With 3 rounds left in his box I told him to try it at 800 yards. What the hell! So, he shot 3 times and we heard the dings! Pretty cool. Due to the mirage and the vegetation we couldn't make out the hits so we called it a day and went home.
Anyway, today I walked back there to check on some herbicide spraying (Darn dog fennel!) and decided to check the 800 yard target to see how he did. Not too shabby.
A three shot 800 yard group with factory ammo from a guy that has just finished the first 20 round box of rifle ammo in his entire 51 year old life. Pretty amazing.
