I have been invited on a deer hunt tomorrow and my scope is not zeroed. On such short notice I dont have time to go shoot long range but I have a 50ish yd shot at my house. I have always been told the 270 shoots flat but would a 50 yr zero be way off at longer ranges? What do yall think?

Not a hunter or long range pro but a 50 yard zero with random 130gr Remington SP and 1.5in sight height over bore would be a half inch high at a hundred and two inches low at 200.

Taking a few shots at 50 yds will be close enough. How far do you think you'll actually take a shot? Probably not much more than 100 yds in our part of the country. You'll be fine.

.

Awesome I just happen to have the 130gr core-lok sp ammo. Thanks I can't ever read those charts right I end up over thinking them. Any shot should be <100yd.

Just don’t come on here next week with a sob story about how you shot the back leg off of Bambi and can’t find it.
And now you figure that the .270 had you under gunned against our massive deer.

😝

I sighted my .270 in at 50 yards dead on a couple weekends ago. Then when I moved to 100 it was shooting just over an inch high with the same zero so I left it alone. YMMV

Got it shooting about .25 moa at 50yd. Dang the boat paddle (zytel) stock is a bruiser I wasnt expecting it to be that harsh.

.270 is a hot little round, and lightweight rifles have more felt recoil than heavy ones.

As a hunter, i fully agree with the posts above. If you are zero'd at 50 yards and miss a deer at 100 it's not going to be because you only zero'd at 50...less than 1" difference between 50 and 100 yards. Hell, most of my rifles are zero'd at 100 and I don't even think twice about shooting at a deer at 50 yards. Just put the crosshairs behind the shoulder and squeeze the trigger!
