Maybe this has been covered elsewhere, but I couldn’t find it. Anyway, I just purchased a Ruger .22 thanks to all this damn craze of suppressors, a Mark IV 22/45 Lite. I see that there are multiple plates to attach a red dot site directly to the upper. My pistol, maybe all these particular models, has a rail attached to the upper. My question is, am I better off to remove the rail, add the plate and optic, or mount the optic to the rail? To be honest, I’m preferring a Holosun site, but I’m not seeing any Holosun options to mount to the rail, just with a plate. My LGS, where I bought the pistol has plenty of Holosun red dots, as well as many others. They only had a Trijicon plate/rail adapter (?), basically a plate made by Trijicon for a Trijicon RDS that mounted to a rail, but I’m not feeling a $750 investment (plate/rail thing plus the site) for a RDS on this .22 pistol.

So, remove the rail and mount a plate and RDS directly to the upper, or get an RDS that will mount to the rail, and leave the rail alone? Obviously the rail was put there by Ruger to mount a site, but it looks busy and seems the site may be a little high up on the rail. Any pics of your creations (Ruger .22’s with RDS’s mounted please) would be appreciated!

Be very careful with the optic plate mounting screws. The aluminum strips very easy and the holes get stretched out easily on lites. Make sure to get the threads cleaned with primer, premium thread lock like vibra tite and torqued to spec with a torque limiting screw driver 15 inch pounds. I have several lites

Lobos is the nicest mount out there IMO, but they’re often OOS. I got the K mount to run a Riton MPRD and love the setup. Having the optic mounted low, rather than on top of a pic rail makes a big difference.

if Lobos is not in stock, and Maddmacs is too proud of their stuff, try Allchin

or Outer Impact

or Tandemkross
