Ruger MkIV Recalls ...

External safeties are at best a crutch and at worst an actual hazard?

Agree 100%.

I bought a MK4 in March. The plan was to use it as a Bullseye pistol since I have allowed my Buckmark to be used as a training gun.

I'll stick with the ol Mark III for a bit longer.

Great! I haven't even pulled the trigger yet on mine!!!!!

I looked at buying an Mark IV, but opted for the S&W Victory instead. (One reason $1oo less retail). Only complaint from their users was the very tight take-down set screw out of the box. But my gun does not have that problem. It's a beautiful piece of workmanship at a great price.

So.... If I send mine in with Volquartzen internals, what happens? Can they just ship me the new safety?

Should have read further:

Will the old parts be returned to me?
faqClose.gif

No. We will keep the old parts. You should remove all aftermarket accessories before returning the grip frame assembly to us. While we will attempt to return accessories to you, we cannot guarantee that is the case. If you have installed any aftermarket trigger components, they will not be returned.

Looks like that'll get Volqstolen:

I have added aftermarket accessories to my pistol; will these be returned?

Also, to the extent the installed aftermarket parts are being replaced pursuant to the retrofit (sear and safety), these will not be returned.

Great, so I have to put all the old parts back in and then send it. I wonder what the modified sear looks like and if the volquartzen sear I have will cause the same issue.

Just got a notice from Volquartsen about the MkIV recall.

As many of you already know, there has been a recent recall on the Ruger MK IV. The complete recall notice can be found here. This recall has brought with it a lot of questions in regard to how this affects those of you that have already installed our trigger components such as our MK IV Accurizing Kit.

In the testing we have done with the frames available to us we have not encountered the same issue as what this recall addresses. The one thing that we do not know as of yet is whether or not the new safety that will be installed during the recall will be compatible with our sear. This is something we are testing and will send a follow up as soon as testing is complete.

Please note that we recommend removing all Volquartsen Firearm components from your pistol prior to sending it in for the recall. Per Ruger's recall notice, aftermarket parts may not be returned with your firearm.

We know this email does not answer all of the questions surrounding this recall. Unfortunately, anything else would be speculation until we're able to test our sear with the new safety.

We will provide an update next week with any new information we have on this.

Sincerely,

Great. Well, I guess it's a good thing I haven't installed the Volquartsen parts I've bought yet. I'll probably wait until the 22 steel season is over to send mine in (@October). However, if I thought I could get it back in a week or two, I might send it in, but I don't want it to miss a monthly match. Maybe it's time to buy the Victory. All it needs is a rubber o-ring...

Very disappointed....

I got a recall on my saturn airbags.

Trying to find a new car without an airbag. Not easy!

Still waiting.......

For full disclosure, my Victory 22 made a trip back to the factory. The tight take-down screw was working so well it pulled the barrel lug nut right out of the gun!

I'm struggling to see the problem with this?

Ruger recently discovered that all Mark IV™ pistols (including 22/45™ models) manufactured prior to June 1, 2017 have the potential to discharge unintentionally if the safety is not utilized correctly. In particular, if the trigger is pulled while the safety lever is midway between the "safe" and "fire" positions (that is, the safety is not fully engaged or fully disengaged), then the pistol may not fire when the trigger is pulled. However, if the trigger is released and the safety lever is then moved from the mid position to the "fire" position, the pistol may fire at that time.

I think it is saying it will fire when moved to the safe position without depressing trigger again.
So, you pull it and nothing happens. You take your finger off trigger and see safety isn't all the way down, so you move safety down and gun then fires.

Does anyone know if Volquartzen has said whether or not this needs to be done if their accurizing kit is installed?

My box came today.

The word is they have not had it occur in their testing but when you do send the lower back to Ruger the revised parts they install requires mods to your Volquartsen sear so you have to send the sear back to Volquartsen and something like $6 ... grrrrrrrrr!!!

I got my box a week ago maybe but to damn lazy to break down the lower and remove the Volquartsen kit and reinstall the OEM stuff ... grrrrrrrr!!!
