Running & Gunning: Navy SEAL and Army Special Forces Operator discuss Fighting Rifle Setup

Kevin Owens (the Irish dude) is frigging awesome. I've seen/heard him on a few other podcasts (Mike Drop, etc.) and he is always entertaining.

Yeah, he's done the rounds recently - he's certainly an interesting character with a slightly different perspective on things given his early start in the Irish Army.

Great stuff! Reminds me that while handguns are neat and convenient, when it comes to war, a rifle is your primary weapon. And not just for power, but range and standoff. You want to engage beyond the effective range of the enemies weapons if possible, as he refers to in that story of the MP5. And you want that engagement to occur beyond that effective range from the home.

My two drachmas:

LVPOs are the new "in" optic. Even Big Army is going to them.

Comfort in sighting is so important I started off with the absolute co-witness (what we were taught) and switched to the 1/3rd for the very reason

I don't know where he films, but I dig the helo's

Flash suppression with suppressors is a real thing, better than the sound suppression

Surefire suppressors WILL run forever, but def not the quietest

Most people who use a "fighting rifle" do it for HD and won't use NODs, IR, or suppressors

Great info about barrel length

Great video!

One of my favorite videos on arms setup!

I might be old, but first let me say half of what a anything a mick says is bs...

Secondly, us old guys did not "look" through anything, we looked OVER it for cqb. That is especially true for the "old" PVS-7 and PAQ4.

I like the SEAL, he seems more humble.

Not to be a total phallus, there are good points on this, thanks for posting!
