Running slings metal clasp thru gas block

Anyone foresee an issue with this setup? A couple guys told me they think the sling material will get too hot but only the metal is touching the GB. I had to set it up this was for LH operation and wanted to avoid spending $25 on a BFG wire loop or $50 sling.

I'd say it depends on how much "letting the big dog eat" when you shoot. The sling metal is going to heat up quite a bit and could cause the canvas to burn or char, or at least deteriorate.

Yep, just be glad it's cotton and won't melt!
 
Run a piece of 550 cord through there so the cord takes the abuse. I ran my sling that for a long time on my ak. If it looks burnt or frayed just cut off a new piece. Also keeps the metal from getting scratched up, if you care about such things. I am a lefty also. The struggle is real.

What type of sling did you use? This Soviet works well but my Romy was too short...so did you clip it to the cord or run the cord through the ring?

I had a commiw sling that came with the rifle for a while then i had a cheapie condor sling on there. I made a loop of 550 cord, ran the 550 cord through the ak stock sling point. Then pulled the loop of cord to the right side of the gun and clipped the sling to the cord. I dont think i have a pic around. Ill try and find one if i can.

I just picked one of these up for my AR. I'm going to see if it will work out on the AK as well.

You could do want any third world AK shooter would do. Use a piece of heavy gauge wire (coat hanger or smaller gauge) and make a loop thru the gas block to attach the sling to. Another trick is to run a split ring thru it.
