My Own Safe Space
I've heard a few members here talk about them and they seemed to get good reviews so I picked some up. It also didn't hurt that they were cheap. I typically run Winchester's SPP with a few of CCI's in the mix.
At first glance they appeared nicer and better made than the Winnys. They were more polished and had less pitting and nicks in the outer shell.
In the press they ran smooth and seated rather easily. I did end up getting a granulate of n320 down in the primer cup and can confirm that the shell itself on the S&B is softer than a Winchester's based on the deformation.
At the range every round went bang (250 or so) even the few that were deformed by the debris before I caught it and cleared it. It would be interesting to get with @Slacker or @Studentofthegun to try their slicked up revos as that would be a good test of really light springs. I cannot locate my brass bag at the moment but will try and get some comparison pictures of Win vs. S&B with firing pin strikes.
I will add that I did have an issue with my primer pickup tubes spitting the S&B primers back out once they got to 80+. Happened on two of my tubes that have since been used with Winchester's and zero issues. That said, the tips are worn and could use replacing. I used my calipers and the S&B's are around .174" in diameter and the Winchester's are just slightly larger .1745" - .175". May also explain why they felt so smooth while seating. Either way the $$$ saved on primers will buy a lot of primer pickup tube tips.
I used a Dillion SQDB loading .40 S&W and shot out of a 2011 Edge with a well worn 17lb mainspring (that's right CZ owners it's called a mainspring).
I will update as I load and shoot more but so far it looks like I may be switching to save a little on primers. Helps cause the transition to major came with a cost hike on powder and projectiles.
