Smith & Wesson Performance Center Model 686 Plus
SKU: 11760

So, after much debate, I am about a day away from special ordering the above S&W. Before I do, I want to give you guys a chance to nudge me in a different direction. This is simply a range gun to enjoy a bigger boom at the end of a range session.

While I know there are other quality options, I am a S&W guy and S&W revolvers do not seem to be a compromise in any way...

I chose the PC version because:
- I like that it is cut for Moon Clips
- I like the appearance of the chromed trigger & hammer
- I like the idea of the PC tuned action
... All for only an additional $117*...
The only thing I don't like about it is the Vented Ribbed Barrel...
The Unfluted cylinder, I really don't have a preference on. I like them both...

The Pro Series version I also like... it does not have the Vented Ribbed Barrel... It is still cut for Moon Clips... it does not have a chromed trigger & hammer...
But what makes no sense to me, according to S&W Pro Series is "between main production and the Performance Center" but it costs $23* more... why?

I chose .357 for a few reasons:
- It seems better to go up in steps, not leaps.
- Ammo cost is a factor (I will not be reloading myself in the near future).
- When I go .44, I'll most likely want a longer barrel, possibly a Muzzle Break. But I want my first revolved to be a little more "normal".

I ordered it today! ... and have... seven... long... days... until... it... arrives..........

Slacker,
The price difference between Performance Center and the standard version was only $80. Between the chromed trigger & hammer and the tuned trigger I think (hope) it'll be worth it.

I feel like a Jewish kid the week before his bar mitzvah. So close to actually becoming a man...

Good looking wheel gun. How do you like it so far ?

Mine wasn't a performance center but I regret selling my regular 686+

The two Smiths I had afterwards were a huge disappointment by comparison; the new 357 and 44 combat revolvers (well new at the time).

That's a pretty one.
Cut for moonclips right?
How many clips did it come with?

Yup, it came with three. I've never used them before and I'll admit, I'm a bit hesitant. They seem really easy to break (bend) and really expensive to replace. I'm probably going to just set them aside until I'm ready to buy one of the handy dandy tools to work with them... or at least do the research to decide if that's something I may be interested in... For now I'm happy to just make it go bang...

Very happy... Took it to the range and spit 50 rounds through it. Taking my time shooting single action my groups were tighter than what I shoot with my semi-autos that I'm very familiar with. Shooting double action I was slightly worse than with my semi-autos...

I ordered several different brands of rounds (due in Thrs) from SGAmmo and will do some comparative shooting this weekend. I planned on buying a case of whichever I like best (I like to stockpile) but the price break for case vs box isn't much at all.

Getting the PC was a bit of overkill for my shooting level, but it was only $80 more so I went for it. I really like the look of the chromed trigger and hammer. I suspect the tuned trigger will make a difference in my double action firing. And being cut for moon clips creates another avenue to explore (read as another hole to throw money in!)

All in all... I'm very happy with my purchase and it should keep me happy for a very long time... although, the recoil isn't as much as I expected... and they do make some nice 44's.......
