Anybody got a suggestion for a safe moving company around Charlotte? I just got a quote to move an 800lb safe about 15 miles. $600!!!!! The safe is easily accessible in a garage and is only going up one step to it's new home. Help!

I used Fred Crain. contact info inbound
He's the guy Hyatt's uses if you buy from them.

Yep, I got his number from Hyatt's and Point Blank. I have left him a message. I have since found out that the safe is 650lbs. How hard would that be to move with a heavy duty refrigerator dolly and 3 or 4 guys? I have a landscape trailer I can use. The safe is in a garage now and will be going inside with only one step to deal with.

The moving company we used to move only charged us 75.00 on top of the bill for a heavy object. But I would say that your probably out of luck with getting anything super cheap with this being the prime moving season. I would think a real dolly with straps and someone big enough to handle it would make it look easy. I used to deliver big refrigerators all the way up to 1500 pound heating stoves with my dad as a youth. Problem is without someone who knows how to use one you will get worked over yourself.

Fred called me back about a month after I got mine moved. Good luck.

My safe weighs almost twice that. Two guys moved it with some PVC pipe, a couple boards, and a pickup truck.

You must have some kinda wide doors.

The one bit of caution Iā€™ll give you. Do not roll that loaded dolly across hardwood floors.

I moved my 64 gun safe recently, only two people and a hand truck. If you can get the door off (open 90 degrees and lift up) it helps a lot!

Well, I just bought the safe so I'll have to get it moved now. Hopefully my nephew and a couple of his buddies will do it for a case or two of their favorite craft brew! It's an American Security SF6032.

When I bought my first safe the company that delivered it used a motorized dolly to get it up onto the porch (two steps) then up the 13 stairs to my second floor. Once there they rolled it down the hall and into place using just 4-6 pieces heavy gauge 2"diameter PVC pipe. The PVC pipe trick is the way to go IMO.

I"ll have to get some PVC. That sounds like the way to go once we get it in the house!

Probably shouldā€™ve clarified my earlier post. The ā€œtwo guysā€ that moved mine were Greg Drake and his son (or grandson, or nephew, or some relative...canā€™t remember). If the guy that builds the safes uses the PVC method, itā€™s good enough for me. :D

If you dare venture back to the canuck forum, I think I had a thread asking the same thing there. I wish I could remember who I went with ( I think it was Fred), but there were several suggestions. They did a good job getting two safes up some narrow back stairs with 3 guys and a hand cart. Although the hand cart had a little hand drill powered lift on it, which helped. The safes were 750lbs each if I remember correctly.

Fred just texted me back about moving the safe. He got back to me pretty quick. He wanted to know how soon I needed it moved. I didn't ask him how soon he could do it since I have lined up a couple of hefty young fellows to help me move it. I should have asked him what he would have charged though.

When the guys moved mine from BPS, they laid it on the back of a 2500 pickup truck. When they got to the house then put down some plywood and used galvanized pipe to roll it over the hardwood floors. Not sure how they got it around the bed and into the closet. I think I paid $250.

I have a set of these you can borrow if you need them.

Those things were the bomb! Put one on each side of the safe, strap it on, jack it up and roll it wherever you want it. Two old farts and one young dude and it was a breeze. Thanks again Brian, you saved me a lot of back pain!
