Sass 38-40 load recommendations

When I was a kid, my dad had a very nice Winchester in 38-40 that I loved to shoot. Wish I had it.

I have to be different for some reason and i want to run all 38-40. Can I get some load ideas if you shoot it
I had an aquantence in California that spent his days developing 38-40 loads. At the time I had a Ruger Buckeye 10mm/38-40 convertible. He sent me some of his loads (Ruger Blackhawk only). He sent me 3 different sets of loads....warm, hot, and nuclear. Jesus H. Christ! That nuclear load was the hottest thing I've ever fired , before or since. It's a great cartridge with a lot of history. Did you know that John Wayne carried a Colt 38-40 in all of his early movies?

NC cowboy shooter R.J. Gatlin shoots a .38-40 so he can probably give you some pointers.

I have an older Hodgdon pamphlet at home with a section devoted to cowboy action load data.

I’m assuming you are loading smokeless since BP load data is essentially to fill the case to a level where the seated bullet will give about 1/8” compression. The .44-40, .38-40 and .32-20 are great black powder cartridges.

I’ve used Red Dot to good effect in .44 Special and .45 Colt cowboy loads. I like Universal for “midrange” pistol cartridges.
