What's your opinion on the Savage Axis XP? For the price it seems like it would be hard to turn down. I don't need one but I have several grandkids that will be hunting in the next few years. (I hope)

If its the model with the accurtrigger, they are good to go.

The models without, are usually cheaper and for $75 or so, you can get a rifle basix trigger for them. They are good shooters but non AT models, have a 7-8lb trigger.

With a 3 dollar spring, my trigger is 4.5lbs and no stupid blade in the way. My axis 243 had outpunched its weight quite a few times

I think I'm going tomorrow to see if the local WM has them in stock as cheap as advertised. I think I'll have to bring one home.

Fun, simple, affordable gun. I bought one in .223 recently - my first modern bolt gun. I'm used to heavy hitting Mosins and Mausers, so this has been a nice change of pace so far. The Accutrigger is crisp, and although the action is a little muddy, I've been impressed with the results - especially considering the price paid.

Beer coaster accuracy at 100 yards is what I typically aim for in AKs, but here were my first two three-shot groups with the Axis at 100 yards. I'm not experienced with bolt guns, high-powered scopes, or long distance shooting, but this was without any scope or trigger adjustment whatsoever. Not too shabby!
