First time ever having a problem with my Savage 22 LR extracting spent cases. Pulled the bolt back and the case was still in the chamber. No problem feeding of ejecting the case if the extractors grabbed it.

I was using Winchester 22 LR and they were HPs. Did not have any other 22s with me to see if it was the bullets or extractors.

Any suggestions?

How dirty is the chamber? 22lr especially bulk pack stuff is filthy.

Chean it really well and test. For piece of mind replace/upgrade extractor. Keep on plinking!

In my experience btw my mark II has a tighter chamber than my 10/22.

Whereas the Ruger will take 1000-1500 rounds of bulk before it gets extraction issues. The Savage usually won't clear 500 before issues arise

Have had one for 10-15yrs and it has the extraction issue I gather is common to them. I contacted savage and they sent me a new extractor and I installed it. I clean often, dirty weapon doesn't feel right as a former Marine. Dirty 22LR will make it worse, but don't believe that's the main reason. I gave the chamber a gentle polish as well. Works better but still gets 'stickies'. Design weakness, as my other 22LR will go long and strong on the same ammo .

Trevillian I might have close to 500 rounds through the gun. The only thing that I have done until today was run a bore snake through the gun. Today I pulled the bolt and ran some patches through the gun.

Mine gummed up last year and for first time I took out the extractor and cleaned it all out and scrubbed the chamber. Fixed the issue for me. There were good videos on YT of how to take apart the bolt.

It’s one of my favorite 22’s.

Mine has had the same issue since it was new. I bought a CZ and that fixed the problem!
