SBR/Pistol Discreet Bag

As said above an AR pistol travels across state lines so much easier than a SBR so I have both lowers ... my Form 1 SBR Spikes multi lower and my pistol lower which is actually an Aero Precision lower marked “Pistol” from the factory. I do fill out a stack of Form 20’s to be able to transport my SBR to various states but unless I’m traveling for a class or shoot I go with the short upper on my pistol lower ... which now like Defek’s has a Laws Folding Adapter and SB Tactical brace in the works ... in a messenger bag. I see he also is running a 20 round mag which to me is easier for bagging mine ... along with an eextra mag and sometimes a suppressor.

Now I have had a couple unfriendly LEOs (one from Cary and she was a bitch ... one from Wilmington and he was to new to the job) tell me they do not recognize an AR pistol as being covered by our CHPs because of the definition in the NC Statutes of what a handgun is ... being a firearm meant to be fired one handed so while it is a pistol it is not a handgun while all handguns are pistols not all pistols are handguns??? They didn’t want to reply but I asked if they fired their service sidearm one handed or two handed ... but both still came back at me saying an AR pistol isn’t covered under the CHP to which I then told them all my friends that are LEOs or retired LEOs said they see them fall under our CHPs. The Cary LEO said if she saw me she’d arrest me and let the judge settle it.

Nothing says quality quite like diversity hiring. :(

Ain't it great she gets to enforce her version of the law. Hope she croaks of a heart attack while chasing a bad guy. Where the hell is Darwin when you need him?

If you already have approved 5320.20 forms, how is travel across state lines any different?

Unless you're traveling to a location where SBRs are outlawed, isn't it the same?

Except for SC’s maximum length the others states I travel(ed) consider the AR pistol under CHP reciprocity and can have it “within reach” but the SBR was in the wayback unloaded. So unless it is a class or shoot I just go with the pistol lower.

I hope you told her that if she did you'd sue her for harassment and enjoy seeing her at your local WalMart as a cashier.

@Derek8404 any updates on this bag? Any new accessories or set up ideas? I am getting an itch. Plus need to upgrade my gear for some additional travel.

No update really, I’m still really liking it. It rides with me on every road trip, and a few short hikes. One thing that would be nicer is that if I had a short enough barrel that it would fit without the need for a Law Tactical. There would be a lot more room in the main compartment that way. With a 7.5in upper you would be good to go.

I'll have to do some measurements. I have an 11.5". Do you know the overall length limitations of that bag?

It would definitely fit as long as you had a folding adapter. Just measured mine and the weapon sleeve is about 23.5in deep.

And that kinda sucks. The specs show about 30" tall. Thought maybe there was a chance. Bastards.

I think you’re looking at The Secret Weapon pack. It looks just like mine, which is the Cherry Bomb, just bigger. The inside compartment in that one is about 30in.

Ah! Yep, the secret wespon. So there is hope. I'm thinking of it as a n emergency, all hell breaks loose get home quickly bag. So AR pistol, first aid, and a few basics. Not heavily loaded.

Anyone make one for a 12.5” barrel? Lol

I'll measure my pistol later with the stock collasped and see where it comes in. With 30" of length it might be close. If you are using a 12.5" maybe you could shave off an inch or so with a different flash hider or break?

That’s exactly what I use mine for. I keep the AR pistol with a 20 rounder and 2 30 rounders, a pistol with 3 mags, a handheld light and a small trauma kit in it.

@Derek8404 @CZfool68 I measured my new pistol and it is 29" with the SBA3 collapsed all the way and a 12.5" barrel with the Deadair flash hider. I really like that bag with the exception of the price lol Have y'all checked out the Apparition bag by KDG? its about $140 but a bit smaller

We discussed that bag earlier in the thread. It is probably fine, but it has 500D instead of 1000D for the material and Eberlestock is well known for durable, comfortable bags. If you are going to throw the bag in a trunk and never carry it loaded up then it probably doesn't matter what you buy. If you intend to load it up and carry it then the details matter. I carry my bags when I walk/hike the Tobacco Trail near my house. And sometimes I will haul them up and down the hill at our place in the mountains. If I go 6 miles or more with a pack I can tell you how it carries, where it rubs and whether I really want to haul it for a day or two in an emergency. I have more confidence in Eberlestock or what I would call a 'real' pack company over some 'tactical' company that ordered a bag made in China. I have a Mystery Ranch bag and some lesser bags, and I can tell you the strap/harness systems and yolks or internal frame design do make a bag much more secure and comfortable on a hike.

My pistol measured 28" with an 11.5" barrel so the Secret Weapon should work for both of us.

Thanks for the info. I didn't read everything earlier in the thread that's my bad. I'll have to pick on of Eberlstock bags up soon to keep my stuff in.

Looks like my pistol should be about 32” total when I finally get my sandman k if I want to run on the gun in a bag. Anyone have experience with the 5.11 m4 discrete bag or the smaller 5.11 discrete bag ?

^^^Exactly what he said.

I have to say that out of the three I like the first one best. Not because of function but look and color.

If you want discreet the last thing to do is have something in tactical colors.

I do like that about that bag too. I wish mine had the options of less “tactical” colors, but I do prefer the quality of eberlestock over those other bags.

I’ve looked at those and if I remember right, they are a sling style pack right? I’m sure it’s fine, I just prefer a traditional style pack personally.

I'm just going to sew some rainbow, Bernie and Coexist patches on mine. Maybe even some odd Tranny insignia. :D

I've been eyeballing the Larue Covert Rifle Case MKII. I'm going to attach a music stand to the outside of the case & if anybody asks me what it is I'm gonna say it's a saxophone. lol!

I looked at those. Very nice, but I'm not likely to strap that on and go for a very long walk or hike. I'd like one of those for transport though.

That was my idea too. I don't really need to hike around with an AR. I was thinking more along the lines of transporting it to & from my car discreetly. I have an Eberlestock Gunslinger II if I feel the need to CCW an AR pistol in the woods. It just disappears in the scabbard.

Eeeeerr! I hate you. Even if you are well intentioned. I hadn't fully committed to buying yet. There is a CZ
I have my eye on as well. And a muzzle brake. But 25% is 25%.

Haha, that sale is going to cost me some money too....not sure on what yet, but I’m browsing the site, there has to be something I didn’t know I needed....

No stock on the Secret Weapon. No ETA on backorders. Losers.

And they are $30 higher than the Eberlestock site any way. I'll have to check around some more.
