SCCY's The Limit **UPDATE 11/11/2018**

BACK to the SCCY!!!!....I wanted so bad for this to work, SO...I am willing to give it more time. Honestly if it had cost $400+, it would be gone from here. I want to have a gun I can recommend to folks who are on a tight budget. I have been disappointed by Taurus, KelTec, and I am sure there were others, to the point I can't tell folks to buy them. Yes, I am sure there are members who have these that have never had a problem, GREAT. I have not. And I mean multiple ones. If we get 200 rounds through this gun with 0 problems, I can trust it and can tell others that they can. If not, can not.

And if it won't run, we'll tear it up and test their warranty. And we can do it, I've seen us do it.

Maybe I missed something? The original range report looked ok?
It didn't run 100%. It did show some promise with a few return to battery when it was dry and had a FTF . I plan on giving it a good cleaning and lube and try again. Maybe after a few more rounds it will settle down and run. We never put it on paper but accuracy seemed fine. We had no problem hitting the steel plates. I'm optimistic that the thing will run fine after a few more rounds. We'll see. Stay tuned for an update in a couple of weeks.

Well that was what I was going by most guns are going to suffer dry

Part of me thinks that the "run it out of the box without proper cleaning/lube" is just kinda a bogus test. But then again, it's likely that people who buy this to have in around and never use it will actually need it to work bone dry / full of lint / with random crappy ammo / with zero break-in if it's ever taken out of the box for use.

Hopefully it does work after cleaning and whatnot, I would love to have a viable choice in the sub $200 market for a 9mm that you can stash places.

@Jayne , I think you're right. Many people that buy this gun may never shoot it or shoot one magazine and put it in the drawer of the nightstand. It's like a Hi Point, it fills a niche for someone that either has little interest in firearms or has limited funds but still wants to be able to defend their family. Personally, I think it did OK for right out of the box. Many higher priced guns will choke until they are broken in. As I said, after a cleaning and some lube, I think it will run. The way we could hit the targets, if this thing will run, it will be a helluva bargain.

It looks way better than a hi-point though, but if it doesn't run... then yea, hi-point for the win. If youtube has taught us anything, a hi-point will run and run and run.

I bought my CPX-2 back when they first came out and I paid a little under $150. Now I see them in every color under the sun. The gun was a little rough around the edges, so to speak, but ran flawlessly for me. I never had an issue with it out of 500 +/- rounds.

I had one a couple years ago or so. I don't remember any problems with it. I didn't really fit my hand, so I traded it in on my Sheild. I think I put about 400 or so rounds throught it. The price was right and the warranty seems on point if they'll back it up like they promise to.

It seems to me that the failure to return to battery is caused by a stiff spring on the extractor. I notice if I don't let my slide hammer the round forward my gun will also fail to return to battery . maybe the extractor needs a little work

I have given it a good cleaning and a good oiling and we'll try it again this weekend. I have a feeling that it will run better, I'm hoping for 100%, but we'll see. As far as accuracy, there are no problems there.

I can't even take a guess at how many holsters I've sold for SCCY's. Can't be too bad. SCCY even sent me a gun to work from before they come out with a mold for it. I made a killing off of it and still have the gun. One of the older CPX-1's. Not even sure if it works. lol

RaceRedGT, I have had the Kel-Tec P11 and P9 as well as the Ruger. I sold them and ended up with the SCCY.

I too, have tried every Keltec made...YES, every handgun they make....never had one that would work to my liking...NEVER. I really want to get hold of a really inexpensive handgun that I can recommend to folks who Just Want A Gun. So far I am stuck on the LCP for $169.

Isn't SCCY guy the same guy who made KelTec? I have never experienced any issues with Keltec. Not with 3 3ats, a .32 or the P11.

will be down to the Fertile Myrtle on March 10 for the SC Environmental Conference... will have to try to get by Battery Oaks for a look see.

Round 2:

Today I took the SCCY back to Battery Oaks for Round 2 of the informal test. Round 1 was straight out of the box. Round 2 was with a clean gun and lubed up. I loaded the 2 magazines and ran them as fast as I could. No issues. I repeated this for 100 rounds. No issues at all. High winds and blowing pollen were wreaking havoc on my sinuses and I went back indoors.
@RaceRedGT was there and he ran either 1 or 2 magazines through it with no issues.
Either the rounds fired through it in Round 1 helped to break it in or the cleaning and lube before Round 2 did the trick, or a combination of both. I don't consider 100 rounds a good enough test for reliability but today's test was very promising. More rounds will be put through it later on and then we will declare it reliable or not.

Based on previous reviews of the Sccy I've read, I predict a reliable budget gun will be final verdict after more testing.

What are directions to Battery Oaks? Will anyone be around Saturday March 10? If so, I plan to stop by and say howdy.

I'll be down there (Myrtle) this weekend myself. Saturday would be great if we could swing by and check it out.

Sweet. Thanks for the update.
Couple inquiries-
What ammo? Any hollow points? My experience shows some hollow points to be feed sensitive sometimes especially in the less expensive handguns. Once I can get the gun to feed those I'm usually satisfied with function.

And this-
SCCY's The Limit **UPDATE 5/4/2018**

Geezer gets in his hot tub time machine and tests the gun 2 months from now.
Old man...do we need to get you back to The Home before 6pm from now on? :p

Cool I just bought that exact same model this week . Same color. I’ll have mine out on Tuesday or Wednesday so we’ll see how it works

Did you get a chance to try yours out?

OK took out the CPX-2 today and put 120 rds through it. Shot a mix of 115 range ammo, 124 gr NATO and 124 gr HST. No failures of any kind. The trigger is pretty heavy but smooth. It seems accurate enough when I slowed down some and the grip is big enough that it doesn't really seem snappy at all

Exactly what the last 2 trips with mine has been. I haven't cleaned it but the one time. So, I'm thinking the first outing that the first outing just broke it in and mated the slide to the rails. Whatever, it has been running perfectly.

Murder Beach is a Hell Hole. You better not go out Downtown when the sun goes down. This is a bitter pill for us raised on going to the beach. Windy Hill Section during Memorial Weekend is Hell on Earth. Nothing but a dirt berm separates it from Atlantic Beach...or as they call it, The Black Pearl. You can go the rest of your life without exposing your family to Memorable Week Festivities. Come in October, or even this month, or next. We see families standing on the sidewalk in downtown MB with the Mom and Dad looking up and down the street they came to when they were kids, just shaking their heads. It's GONE. The MB experience is dead. No Pavillion, no rides, and gang bangers everywhere. A sad thing for me to see having grown up with it. Please, reconsider your time. The Windy Hill section and North of there is wonderful. South of The Bass Pro Shop is BAD JUJU. When you get to Surfside Beach and south of there...pretty good. At least safe. You can come here ANYTIME. We shoot every day!

Something tells me if BatteryOaksBilly calls it BAD JUJU, I'd be crying like a little girl. It's such a shame to see MB the way it is now.
