We will have a new gun to shake down at Battery Oaks tomorrow, a SCCY CPX-2 in 9mm. It's a sub-$200 gun that reminds me of a Kel-Tec P-11 but with a much smoother trigger. The trigger actually feels like a smooth DA revolver. And, it has double strike capability.

Fit and finish looks very good for a gun in this price range. It has an orange dot front sight and a two white dot rear sight. It also comes with 2 10 round magazines. And, as far as gun locks go, it comes with a nice trigger lock with 2 keys. It comes with a transferable lifetime no questions asked warranty.

Tomorrow afternoon we will try to break it or break it in. We always enjoy shooting new guns, no matter the price. Update will follow.

I look forward to your report. Sounds like a great value in a carry pistol. Love to see that.

Looking foward to the results of this also. I got the hankering for a plinker 9mm a little while back and SCCY was on the radar but I ended up just getting a P93.

I've had and carried the cpx1 for about 4 years now. As far as a $200 pistol goes decent little gun.

I love range reports, especially on the cheaper stuff.
When someone says my custom Les Baer and handloads shoots 2" groups offhanded at 25 yards!..well duh. It'd better.
But it's lots more informative when they explain what a cheapie does using winchester white box. Keep us posted, with photos if do-able.

I loaded one of the magazines a little while ago to get ready for the range and it felt a little strange. We may have to take it apart and see if there are any burrs or anything inside of it. But, I won't do that unless it gives problems. I'm going to test it just as it came out of the box. We might put a dab of oil on the rails but that's all we'll do to it. Maybe Billy will some of his "hell loads" we can put through it.

My only experience was with the one my daughter bought. Darn near the worst trigger I ever pulled. It took all your concentration to get a hit on target. One thing is for sure, she put in the time to somewhat master it, should be GTG when she gets something decent.

I have a pair of them, a one and a two. Decent little guns with good capacity. My CPX2 did break the ejector at some point and I need to send it back to have it fixed . When I called them they recommended I send both guns back to have them both serviced. I believe there may be something that they have updated in the internals.

Greezer,
I have had one for 2+ years and that is the only gun that I keep in the car. It has never jammed or failed to fire. I have only shot my reloads and some of them would not feed in my other 9s. The trigger is just like the 640 or 642. The only problem that I have with the gun is the reset or should I say the lack of a reset. You have to come completely off the trigger for the second shot. Do like the idea of being able to pull the trigger twice if a round does not fire but that has not happened.

With the last article in either Guns and Ammo (maybe Handgunner) talking about having your gun taken away by police and the PIA to get it back, the <$200 price tag is a real bargain. Check some of the Youtube videos on the gun. It is built to last. I had a couple come in and did not like the recoil spring. Called SCCY and they had 2 replacement springs to me within a week.

I'd like to report that the little SCCY ran flawlessly......but, I can't. I did not clean the gun nor lube it before shooting it. It was just as it came out of the box.

Here is the first 10 rounds out of it at 15 yards.

Here is the second 10 rounds through it.

Here's @BatteryOaksBilly working on a 25 yard target.

25 yard head shots.

The third magazine that I ran through it, it failed to return to battery twice. A little tap on the rear of the slide with the heel of my hand and it locked right up and fired. I took it inside and put a little scoot juice on the rails and went back to the range. It worked great then. I was using 115 gr, and 147 gr brass ammo and 115 steel case ammo. It worked well with both.

When Billy was shooting it, we had our one and only FTF.

The chamber was pretty dirty by this time. After we cleared it, it went back to running. Later, we had one more failure to return to battery. Just a push of the thumb corrected this.

The gun shoots exactly where you aim it. The trigger is long, but smooth, like a DA revolver. It is more accurate than a $200 gun should be. We put 200 rounds through it today without and cleaning. I'm going to strip it down and give it a good cleaning and try it again. Maybe it is just a break in period that we were going through. I'm going to continue to shooting it and see if it ever becomes 100% reliable. I'll report back later on.

Ive been seeing these at the gun show. Aesthetically, Ive seen a lot worse, but I wondered how well they shot. Glad you had a pretty good experience. And Battery has a really nice set up to shoot there too. Well done. I look forward to hearing how well it shoots after you get more rounds through it.

Mosquitoes want something that doesn’t taste like poop

Skeeters don't want none of us. We're all old and have tough hides.

Billy has given everyone an open invitation. It's not just talk, he means it. If you ever happen to be in the area, take him up on his offer. You will never meet a finer gentleman.

Cool I just bought that exact same model this week . Same color. I’ll have mine out on Tuesday or Wednesday so we’ll see how it works

Gee, my wife wants me to do a family Murtle Beach thing in May. I was going to try and schedule a far flung fishing trip to get out of hanging with my SIL an her family, but if I bring guns and get to shoot that could almost make it tolerable.

Give us all a heads up when the May trip to MB gets closer..... some of us might be able to meet up and shoot some.

For sure, I'll be at the company condo in Windy Hill, March and in May. I would definitely like to check it out if he wouldn't mind.

I'd prefer to be up on Lake Champlain smallmouth fishing, mbut my wife is plotting an 80th B'Day gathering for her Dad Memorial Day weekend or there abouts, so I may be stuck. I'll let everyone know as it gets closer.

Ha! I am with you on that. But it isn't my call. How bad will it be, and what is the issue? Just typical toursit BS, or something special?

Myrtle is bad enough any other weekend during the summer. Memorial weekend is way worse. I went to carolina beach a couple years ago on Memorial Day weekend and it reminded me so much of Myrtle beach I left

Bike week. Not a good time to be there.

Murder Beach is a Hell Hole. You better not go out Downtown when the sun goes down. This is a bitter pill for us raised on going to the beach. Windy Hill Section during Memorial Weekend is Hell on Earth. Nothing but a dirt berm separates it from Atlantic Beach...or as they call it, The Black Pearl. You can go the rest of your life without exposing your family to Memorable Week Festivities. Come in October, or even this month, or next. We see families standing on the sidewalk in downtown MB with the Mom and Dad looking up and down the street they came to when they were kids, just shaking their heads. It's GONE. The MB experience is dead. No Pavillion, no rides, and gang bangers everywhere. A sad thing for me to see having grown up with it. Please, reconsider your time. The Windy Hill section and North of there is wonderful. South of The Bass Pro Shop is BAD JUJU. When you get to Surfside Beach and south of there...pretty good. At least safe. You can come here ANYTIME. We shoot every day!

Used to love to go to MB between Christmas and New Years with my son to play golf. NOBODY was there.
Been to Bike Week a few times but that has been many years ago. We stayed at the very north side of MB at a friends condo. Maybe 3 or 4 miles from the NC border.
