School me on 22lr cans

Seems like most has been covered already. When it comes to suppressors I yield to @BigWaylon since that guy has more stamps than I've ever considered or day dreamed of.

I have an SS Sparrow and like it a lot. It's quiet, very well built, not too heavy at all, can handle up to 22WMR and 5.7 FN, and I've gotten great support from SiCo. That said, it does has first round pop, it's not the lightest can out there, even with the half tubes it can still be very difficult to take apart when super dirty, and there are newer better cans on the market now.

I haven't done much research into .22 cans lately since I bought mine probably 4-5yr ago however I would choose the Spectre over the sparrow today.

When it comes to buying NFA items, you're stuck with them for life essentially. There is no point in skimping out on $100 or so to save money because you'll still yearn for the other and maybe end up buying it waiting another 9mo+. So get the best or the one you really want. No compromising. I mean you're paying a $200 TAX, come on.

I saw a post the other day saying he was taking a break from business for a bit. Plus, I think he's quite a bit further away from me. It looks like tarheel is an hour and a half
I'm in Lincolnton and taking some time off. Wish I new about the shoot as I might be able to make it out. For .22 cans I'd stay away from rebel. I ordered some of the model above and they were all missing the baffles, end caps where not coated, and when they did send baffles they where not the same as what I was sold to begin with. They sent me a sos22 as a demo and I'm not impressed. The machine is terrible and the finish is not much better. I also wouldn't go with a soft aluminum can unless it was the warlock from sico. But for a little more you could go with a specter. If I was in the market I'd get the el Camino or oculus. I'm not sure I'd shoot the oculus in the short configuration but it's a great can and sounds great. Having tested most 22 cans the top five are very close on frp and follow up shoots. The mask has the least frp to me but it's not much better then the griffin checkmate qd and the fact that the qd mount acts as a thread protector as well as a super fast mount makes it an easy choice for me to buy again and again. I have three of them.

Yeah the modular occulus is cool but I also don't think I'd ever shoot it in short config. I do like the idea of a qd mount but at the same time the can would probably live on my CZ so I'm not opposed to direct thread since it would rarely ever move.

Both very valid points. The el camino is crazy light and just as quiet as the mask which is why I'd buy q can over the dead air for direct thread.

Is the el camino only rated for 22lr? I've tossed around the idea of picking up a 17hmr as well
SS shows it to be full auto rated so I would think a slow rate of fire with 17hmr would be fine but I can't find it listed anywhere what all its rated for.

Wish I new about the shoot as I might be able to make it out.
It hasn't happened, yet...you still can. :D

There have been multiple threads about it, for months. Not sure what else we could do. :p

Well I know it's been a while but I finally made the trip down to Tar Heel State today. I went down there with the intention of buying a spectre 2 and ended up buying the mask. After handling the things that won me over with the mask was that it was slightly more compact, the baffle use a slot/key so they will always be in the same orientation in relation to each other every time, the baffles are machined so that the surface/contact area between the baffles and the tube is minimal meaning that even if it gets super fouled they should still come out easily, and honestly I think the mask is more visually appealing.

This is my first nfa item and I'm pretty excited. Just hope I made the right choice.

Excellent choice. I love my Spectre IIs, and don't have a Mask. If I had to buy one today, it'd be a toss up between Mask and Oculus.

The shielded baffle system of the Mask is nice, and should make disassembly a breeze. The only negative in the Mask's column when comparing it to the Spectre is the need to clean it more often due to baffle design.

You have to pull the nose of one baffle out from the inside of the cone of the other, so any buildup in that area could prevent that. Cleaning, or at least disassembling, at a regular volume interval should reduce/eliminate any issues.

I just hope I'm one of the lucky ones whose stamp cones back in 4 months. Been seeing a lot of 4-6 month waits lately on multiple Facebook pages I'm on. Fingers crossed!

My check cashed date is 4/11/17. Still waiting
You don't even want to know how many I have in jail right now. The bad part is I'm at year on my next one to make bail.

You should be any day then for the call.

I was optimistic for a December approval. Looking for my next purchase for when I pick up, I can start another one. Can’t decide on the Obsidian 9 or a 30 cal can.

How easy is the Spectre II to clean? I may be looking at one of those for a 10/22 build.

Very easy. Shielded baffle stack so they should come out of the tube every time, without needed a lot of encouragement.

Pop the baffles apart and toss them in a tumbler or ultrasonic...or whatever you prefer. Best is to just knock the chunks out and reassemble. Spotless/shiny surfaces are louder than dirty surfaces. ;)

If you're around the north side of Charlotte, you're welcome to stop by and check one out. I do have 3 of them.

Now that is not something I would have thought of, or even have read anywhere else! Very interesting!

Realized I posted this in the wrong NFA thread! That Mask looks pretty nice on the 22/45!
