Disconnecting the battery doesn't reset it either. There is an over ride button under the dash that shuts it off, then 8 hours later it goes off like crazy, just sitting outside my home office window.

I've unhooked the battery to see if that would reset whatever is unhappy but that doesn't do anything. Horn starts blowing like mad as soon as I reconnect the battery. I've looked for the fuse in the owners manual to disable the security system and couldn't find a fuse identified for that. Looking again.

Look for a hood switch I had one go bad on a grand Cherokee and it got really senstive and acted stupid till i replaced it.

Check out these thread:

https://www.thehyundaiforums.com/threads/disable-stock-alarm-system.3574/

And then there's this:

I dis-like it when customer lock car with remote and leave only the key.. rather simple, but noisey,, providing you have ignition key in hand.

Car was locked with remote, so it waiting for RF signal to tell it to unlock car, and that entry is valid (door switch signal from door being opened).. you have not met that criteria, as ETACS waiting for unlock signal it did not get, and see open door as sign of break in.. HONK _ HONK _ HONK

Key in ignition cylinder, turn to run position, wait 2 alarm cycle for ETACS to see key in ignition cylinder and key on,, then turn to crank the car... after that, ETACS out of picture becuase it not been told to arm via RF signal..

There haven't been any EA6B Prowlers or EA18 Growlers flying over have there?:D

I've witnessed it myself in my business park back in 2005. EA6B took off from Greensboro and flew right over my office and set off every car alarm out there. One of the funniest things I've ever seen.

So I'm looking all over for the horn(s) to disconnect so I can work on the thing without listening to the freakin' horns, AND I HAVE TO TAKE OF THE FRONT BUMPER TO GET TO THE TWO HORNS.

This thread might need to get moved because my language is getting ready to get real colorful.

Might be programmed not to allow women drivers?

Huh, on the '11 they're brilliantly mounted between the engine and firewall. Or I'm remembering some junk from work... but I think it was the Sonata, cause I know I thought I should move them, wouldn't care on a city car.

Had the same problem with my wife's Smart.

Wrapping the entire car in foil seemed to fix it.

Damndest thing I've ever seen. Found a youtube video. The guy had the bumper off . One is in front of the bottom of the windshield washer fluid reservoir, and the other one right in front of the radiator.

So I wonder if overriding the security system (which I can do with a button under the dash just for that, but may only last ten minutes, or may last a day) and then NOT use the key fob to lock the vehicle (which activates the security system) would be an easy fix for now so the vehicle can at least be used without fear of leaving it sitting in a parking lot during the day and having the alarm go off spasmodically. I've used plain old keys for a lot of years. I don't HAVE to use a remote. The wife can just drive my Ranger.

That may be the best plan.

Jason Bourne can do this while climbing up an exterior wall.

Can you plug the wires together on the hood switch or trunk switch to eliminate them from the circuit or touch the wire to a ground it is probably just a limit style switch to either complete the circuit or ground it if it is only a single wire.

I've got identical switches under the hood and on all four doors. The hood switch is the only one that i can easily unplug. It's a two contact female plug. I could complete the circuit, if that's how the systems works ( versus disconnecting the circuit, and i cant tell from the switch which is happening when it's depressed) That hood switch gets much less use than the driver door switch. And according to hyundai there are other things that might be in play than just the switches.

Honda cars would do this. Ford Explorers also. Door switches would be the culprit.
Spray brake cleaner in the latch assembly. Drown/flood it. Do all the door.

Glad you're on the case now. What I am assuming is the switch is in the bottom of the top pic. All four doors and the hood have this boot covered switch. Would this have any impact on what you are recommending? Thanks in advance.

Not at all if the switch you posted is indeed a door ajar/security switch.

Everybody else uses micro switches mounted on the latch assembly that gets gummed up with crud and causes the issue you are having.

I will look at a wiring diagram this afternoon noon when I get back. Figure out how to bypass the offending switch

Outstanding! And thank you. I hadn't heard a real security alarm until I heard the staccato bursts of horn blowing from that Hyundai. Sounds like a chimpanzee being raped in the back seat.

Pull the horn relay or fuse

Pull the horn relay or fuse
Thanks.

Failing that, I think I'll just wear my shooting ears for the 20 seconds it takes to place the positive battery terminal back on, insert the key in the ignition, then press the override button under the dash to silence the beast while I fool with it.

I'm heading to cars and coffee so I'll be off line for just a little while.

Okay, found both of those and pulled them so at least I can futz around with the car without waking up the late sleeping house guest (my son).

I discovered that I am still within the 5 year, 60 k warranty, but based on the experiences I've had with this particular service department I'd like to have my own idea of what's causing this before I throw myself at their mercy for multiple visits. They've said some really crazy things to me in the past with the straightest of faces, lol.

I ain't got time fo dat, yo. :)

Holy crap. Dealer service says first available appointment is August 29th. o_O
I told the scheduling lady that we really can't drive the car and park it anywhere in it's current state so she said she'd check with the service manager to see what they can do.

If I could figure out how to diagnose this Korean beast I'd change out switches myself on my dime if I could do it inexpensively, just to be done with it. Apparently it could possibly also be in a computer module according to some research another fine member provided this morning. @Short Fuse
I may be at the mercy of the dealership.

Apparently the switches in the door jambs are for the lights, courtesy @Short Fuse . The one under the hood looks the same as those in the door jamb but is hopefully for the security system. I can replace it for $15.

I'll pick up some spray brake cleaner since the door switches do appear to be in the door actuators. We'll see what happens.

FORD is always the answer!! Lol

I have two, lol. This is the wife's car, that I really liked it until I got into this fix.
Easy solution....Trade that Korean car in on a Fusion or Escape. Then there's 3 in the stable....

Well I WAS planning to put one of my students in it, and buy my MIL's 2014 Escape with 3,000 miles for the missus. My MIL quit driving two months after I helped her buy it three years ago, but I'm not trusting this Korean car, and their local service dept? ...sheesh. 3 weeks to make an appointment??

Dang...14 Escape with 3k miles. That's a brand new Escape for all practical purposes!

Send that Korean car back to Kim Jung Un....Lol

(Yes I know that he's NK and Hyundai is SK)

Push it out the back of a C-130 over NK and be done with it.
KBB says the 2014 Escape is only worth $1000 more than the 2013 Sonata GLS with 51,000 miles. I told the wife that Craigslist might be in this Hyundai's future after I resolve this security system issue. It's still in warranty, too. 5 years, 60K miles.

I'll take that money, add a grand to it, and go ahead and buy the MIL's Escape. My wife likes it anyway.

Call another dealer. I have never waited more than a day (unless it was to get parts) at Fred Anderson Kia of Raleigh (hope that wasn't where this happened!!)

If their service department is backed up 3 weeks, are they understaffed or too many problems? A call to HQ usually speeds the process up.

The reviews for the other local dealer are really awful. I actually worked there 15 years ago right before they were sold, and all the management bailed because of the reputation that preceded the buyers. Plus I own another Hyundai that one of my students is in, under warranty. I really want to choose my battles carefully with this service department, since I'm somewhat of a hostage at this point having two vehicles under their warranty.

I just drowned the door latches in brake cleaner per @Mike Overlay's instructions, and ordered the hood switch for twenty some odd bucks. I removed the horn fuse and relay so the worst that can happen is if the problem surfaces again while it's sitting in my driveway I'll know by the flashing lights, but at least the horn won't be blaring. In the meantime I'll plan next steps.
