I find most movies are rubbish. Last movie I've seen that was good was Deepwater Horizon (yes, about the oil rig that exploded and led to the massive BP oil spill in the Gulf several years ago).

Could use some recommendations. Any genre, except 'Crap', which it seems 99% of movies belong to.

I thought Patriots Day was pretty good.

My initial reaction is to pass. Seen too many "Boston Strong" t-shirts which I find ironic given that this anti-gun city was 'sheltering in place' for 24+ hours because of 2 guys.

But if others also thought it was good, I might have to watch a few minutes to see if it pulls me in.

Rouge one as a stand alone movie was awesome with a little Star Wars sprinkled on top.

Ive heard Hidden Figures was very very good as well.

I'm finding that we, my wife and I, have to go back in time searching for something we haven't seen that's worth watching. The crap hollywood has been putting out the last several years is.... well.... crap to put it mildly.

The last movie that I personally thought was good was a 2015 movie with Christopher Plummer called "Remember". That's all I got dry.

13 Hours was the last movie that I purchased. Most films made today are junk so I stay away from them. If I don't like the loud mouth liberal actors, I don't see their films, why support someone who hates me and what I stand for? Most aren't worth seeing to start with.

I saw Hidden Figures and really liked it, but I am a geek and love just about every movie related to the space program. It also reminded me i need to watch The Right Stuff again and intriduce my kids.

Saw a movie on Amazon Prime recently, The Green Room.
A B Movie but had some notable actors and actresses in it, including Patrick Stewart of Star Trek fame.

Quick run down: Punk rock band is on tour, they get set up at a skin-head club in the middle of nowhere and after their set they witness a murder and are stuck there.
I figured I'd take a chance on it and Im glad I did, I'd watch it again sometime for sure.

Its free if you have Prime, check it out

Watched a documentary from Netflix this week called Muscle Shoals, made about five years ago. It's about how Muscle Shoals, Alabama became a recording destination for musicians from all over. Well done documentary with footage of many artists from the 60's and 70's, heavy on R&B/ soul artists like Percy Sledge, Aretha, Wilson Pickett, Clarence Carter, but also including the Stones, Lynerd Skynerd and others. I liked it a lot.

The wife and I saw Dr. Strange. I enjoyed it, especially when 'Interstellar Overdrive' by Pink Floyd started playing as the lead in music.

+1 for Rogue 1

Just don't waste your money on Live At Night. It was so horribly slow. I almost asked for a refund.

Yeah, that was pretty good.

For those who haven't already wasted their time on Luke Cage, avoid avoid avoid. Since reviews are good, I thought I'd try it despite my reservations about how dull Luke's character was from Jessica Jones. Watched first 2 episodes and would rather watch paint dry - a freshly painted wall would be more interesting than the lead character. The character has zero charisma. Think blacker and blander Jason Statham's action characters (so Lock Stock and Snatch are excluded). At least with Statham movies, the pacing is fairly fast so it somewhat (but only somewhat) makes up for how dull the character is. With Luke Cage, you have a boring lead character with molasses pacing. It's too bad the character is indestructable as I found myself wishing for his demise.

Come to think of it, most of the Marvel TV series suck. Jessica Jones was saved by the interesting villain, as the lead here sucked as well. And Daredevil was partially saved by Shane/Punisher and the blonde eye candy.

Haven't watched Agents of SHIELD, but considering how lousy Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage are, I have to imagine it will also suck. Who rates these shows so highly on IMDB? Shills? Comic book nerds? Liberals?

Just watched Split; very interesting. They should give the Academy Award to that guy with the multiple personalities.

We watched Age of Adeline last night. I thohgt it was going to be a chick flick but it wasnt it was really good.

"The Age of Adaline is a 2015 American romance fantasy film about a woman who stops aging after an accident at the age of 29."

You sure your testosterone level is normal? ;)

Yes I agree

One that I enjoyed, which surprised me,
[h=1]The Accountant[/h]

Agree - I actually enjoyed it too - my wife did as well.

Last recommendation - Deadpool - hilarious. I am not into comic books and no absolutley nothing about the series... but the movie was great.

Oh yeah, took the kids to see Sing also. Very good for all ages.

Agreed. Wasn't a big left-wing liberal celebration like Zootopia was.

Yep. I do know the series to some degree, but this was fun to watch. I'm not a fan of foul humor, but this one was shot and edited in such a way you were more focused on the absurdity of violence, the slow motion, and the cinematography that you almost don't pay attention to it.

I have it on the DVR and tried to get the wife to watch it with me, as she's a fairly decent Marvel & DC fan. She scanned the parental guide on IMDB (a very useful tool if you've never looked at it before) and decided to pass. I didn't even remember half of the things it mentioned. :D

The last truly good movie I saw was The King's Speech.

Interesting thread is interesting.

I have the same dilemma. I find myself wanting to watch a good movie, but good is relative and opinions vary. The last "good" movie I watched was The Siege of Jabotville.

My kids and I watched The Martian this weekend. I was surprised at how good it was.
I'm watching Cuba Gooding and DeNiro in Men of Honor as I type this.

Enjoyed that one as well. I'd seen it in the theater, but watched it again last week with my wife.

It was also a good read. Read the book before I watched the movie the first time.

Have they made any good movies lately?

And just about every movie recommended here is not on Netflix. Dang it!

Last night I watched Anthropoid, which is about the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich in Czechoslovakia during World War Two. It was pretty good. The movie was made in 2016 and is available on Netflix. WW2 history buffs will like it.
