So I have a 97 Nissan Pathfinder that my wife wants out of the driveway. It runs and drives, but does need some minor work/tires to be good and road worthy. I had thought of placing an add as a "mechanics special", but I don't know if I wanna deal with all the tire kickers/wierdos that would show up. I also thought about calling a local junk yard to see what they'd offer. If I could get $400 i'd tell the to come get it. I got an online quote from Carbrain and the offered me $135! Like hell! I've got a clean title and it's low miles considering the age.

Any of y'all used a junkyard to sell a junker? Just not sure what route to take.

Anybody need a beater huntin' truck?

It is auto. So this is what I know for a fact it needs. 1)The exhaust needs to be replaced. You may be able to cut the bad parts out and weld in new sections. 2)It needs tires. In facr the drivers rear is flat, the others hold air, but are a dry rotted. 3)The rear has a little shimmy when you let off the gas. Bushings? Lower control arms? 4)The brake lights suddenly decided to stay on all the time. Pulled the fuse for the time being to keep from draining the battery. 5)Passenger side front marker light needs to be replaced and wiring looked at. 6)I do not know the last time any belts or timing chain was replaced.

I have been driving it occasionally in the shape it's in (except for the brake light issue. Haven't driven it since it happened). I have had no problems from it in the 4 or so years i've had it, but it was not a daily driver either. It has always started and run fine. The body is in good shape with no major rust (it has spent it's life in the south east).

Any other particular questions, just ask. I'll answer them as best and honestly as I can.

Sometimes a tax write off is more important than a couple hundred in cash. If that's you, think about donating it to charity.

So I went to get some pics and start her up, but the battery is dead and my cables are in our other car at my BIL's.

I need something to haul trash to the dump and pack up bigger items than my '07 cobalt can pack in the trunk...
but i'm kind of a long way away and was hoping to find a cheap something like a pickup with an open bed.

Check engine light will not cause it to fail state inspection starting this year. State changed the law so that vehicles 20+ years old only have to pass safety inspection, if you live in counties that still do pollution inspections.
this is very interesting news.

It used to be 95 and back ie OBDI safety only and 35 years or old or new inspection.

Can you post a link to the changes?
