Set some traps today.

Nice ole gray fox! Guy that traps for us said they are the most fiesty and vicious 8 pounds you will get on the end of stick besides a big cat and only thing that has ever bit him and even tried was gray foxes. He does not like getting them or big cats out of traps luckly cats are not in the area yet just when he goes down east couple times a year he has to worry about them but doesn't mind coyotes they have all tried to run from him when he gets them out of the traps.
Yeah they are quite feisty

We have grays and reds on our little piece of property this year. And some yotes it seems. Shot one and found more scat last week. One of the foxes came in before daylight Sat and I could hear it running all over the ridge in a big circle then it went back the way it came.

Caught another grey this morning

Lol no. I use a catch pole I made. If anyone needs one around the triad I can make you one. They work great for handling the live animals.
How about some pix, or better yet video, of this release pole in action?

Here’s my buddy using his I made for the first time on a fox of mine. He got it out of the trap for me bc I was at work. He wasn’t sure how my traps worked so it took him a min to get him out but the pole worked great.

@Zbizzle911
Stupid question. What are u doing with them if you don't drop them right there? In the vid you seem to have taken it live? Not a trapper just curious.

We put them in a dog box and then sell them to fox pens. They train their dogs with them. Edited to add that the fir market is down so that’s why we don’t kill and then skin them. They’re worth more alive.

Cool. Makes perfect sense. Thanks! Learn something new every day :)

Re-set them last night. Another grey.
No wonder there are very few reds around.

Do they not coexsist or one more dominate in your experience? I didn't know one would affect the other I always thought the grays hung out more around the woods or in the woods more and reds seem to come more out into fields or around edges?

The fox have been using my driveway as a travel corridor. So I made a dirt hole set about have way out. Made it yesterday evening. Wife leaves for work about 7:30 am and crests the hill, she calls me, big red was working the set, looked up, saw her car and fled the scene.

Maybe tonight. ;)

I could use a couple tails for my new fly tying obsession.

And @Zbizzle911 thebiffer still stands if you trap out your current spot. I know there’s a couple red foxes and plenty of yotes at my place.

I haven’t forgot been waiting on some more traps to come in and for this weather to break. Below 28 degrees is not conducive to live trapping. I’ll be in touch soon.

What kind did you order?

Another dozen of the No BS Lures KO K9 xtreme jrs. Outside and inside laminated 2 coil. Really like their traps. Well made in America and they do a great job with little foot damage.

When I used to trap for the local pens, and the ground froze, we always went to old tobacco barns and got the "barn dirt". It's very dry and we used it in our sets. Never had a trap freeze up using barn dirt in our sets.

Yeah I’ve got several buckets of that and some wax dirt we made. It’s not the trap we are worried about it’s the foot. If there’s any foot damage especially a frozen foot the buyer will reject them. So we just try not to run our lines when it’s below 28. This gives us a break and it lets the new wear off our sets.

Where do you order your trapping supplies from?

How do they compare to raccoons? I have heard trapped raccoons go nuts and try to destroy everything in the immediate area after being trapped. A friend had one nearly destroy a have-a-heart trap.

I shoot coons before approaching them so idk. Every coon I’ve caught in a dp trap has made a fight circle and is usually laying there waiting on a 22 lr round lol

What's a set?

It’s one setup. So I call a set one trap and whatever lure and bait setup I use. It could be a dirt hole set or a flat set or a step down set.
