Share your Survival Bags (BOB, GHB, SHTF, EDC)

Also, good to see others keeping a toothbrush with them!

I'll look into some socks to add to the kit, as well as a pair of clean undies... and a small, travel-size GoldBond
Hot days and a lot of walking can get uncomfortable...QUICK.

Please, keep the suggestions coming.
Critique, help.

Gold bond or corn starch. I keep a ziplock bag with some of each in the maxpedition bag. That thing started as a daily carry at summer camps, but has turned into what I keep with me all the time. Between the 2 of them there's not much I have to dig into my bag for I just have to remember to refill what gets used. (Hence the field note note book).

No, Ive not added any extras.
I do keep a sleeping bag in the car during colder months and have a mil-surp rain jacket in the car too.

Suggestions?

In addition to what Wyatt suggested (extra socks/underwear), an extra pair of pants and a shirt so you'll have dry clothing.

Exposure gets a lot of folks. Being cold or wet can make you very uncomfortable. Being cold AND wet is a recipe for disaster and can make you very dead.

Wool socks are a good call and it's also important to have a means of retaining heat lost through your head. A cold head and cold feet can seriously f*ck up your internal thermostat.

for a minimal shelter get you a SOL bivy and a blanket and you'll be set.

Anyone keep extra ammo in their bag?

I'm glad you mentioned this because it has made me think a bit more about it.

I have 46 rounds with me, but I haven't carried any extra due to trying to stay light. I'll most likely add an additional 50 rounds. I figure the weight of needing it and not having it would be much heavier than the ammo.

I don't keep ammo in my bag, it's in the vehicle, and can get put in the bag if I'm walking away from it. There's more than just ammo I'll be taking... as for other calibers I actually have 22lr, 9mm, 38spl, 357mag, 45acp, 5.56 with me at all times. If it's something other than that I'm screwed by that point anyway so it's a lost cause.

Isn't it against the rules for you to post a picture of me without my permission?

I didn't see any money. Stash a few $20's in there and you might not need to walk so far. And if the S really has hit the F then you have extra TP.

And some smaller bills since getting change won't be too likely.

I think I've got all the pics taken and some consumables replenished just need to transfer the pics to a laptop and I'll consolidate all these one off pics.

Not a bad idea.

I usually carry cash in my wallet, but it may be a good idea to stash some in my bag should I become separated from my wallet.

And while we are on the subject of wallets....

This may seem like a stupid idea, but I usually carry a cheap "throwaway" wallet with me. It has $15, maybe $18 bucks in it...a couple of fives and the rest ones. In the credit card slots, I have a couple of used gift cards; one's a visa and one's a mastercard. Anyhoo...the reason I carry it is if someone gets the drop on me and sticks a barrel in my face, I give them the throwaway wallet.

If they take off running with it, great...mission accomplished, although they're gonna be real pissed to find out those gift cards are neither real credit cards nor do they have a balance on them.

If they wanna stick around to see what else they can get from me and/or have other intentions, I figure while they're fumbling with the wallet, looking to see how much they scored, it may distract them long enough that I can get my hand on my carry piece.

Yesterday I picked up some Hot Hands from Home Depot for a buck a pack (two per pack) got 2. They are supposed to be good until 2019.
I feel confident they'll be good MUCH longer as I pulled some from my bag on Saturday with a 2015 expiration date and popped them open. While they never got really hot, they were still quite warm and on a cold day Im sure it'd have been a relief.

Good idea on some singles in the bag. I, too, typically have some cash on me, but 20 bucks in a five or two and then singles wouldnt be a bad idea either.

I really like this thread, getting a lot of ideas.
Keep em coming.

Q1 - do you have a firearm for each caliber with you each day?
Q2 - how much are you keeping of these?

I really done see a true SHTF scenario in the future, but it has been on my mind for a bit to carry other calibers just in case.
Carry (concealed) a LCP with extra mag. I should, at least, carry extra rounds for it if nothing else, but maybe tossing in a little of some other 'popular' calibers wouldnt be a bad idea either

Always have a toboggan with me (at least one) during the colder months or times when it'll get cold at night (late fall and early spring).

I ran out of gas a few years back in February, because of my job at the time I was in and out of kitchens all day long as a sales rep...a large coat wasnt something you wanted around these greasy, often cramped, kitchens in restaurants.
Anyway, I was running low and thought "ok, well there is a station 2 miles up, I should be good"
I wasnt.
Car turned off and I was stuck on the side of the highway.
My father brought me gas, but not before I had to wait about thirty minutes at about 745am on that cold Feb morning.

Since then I always keep some warm weather clothes in the car. Nothing crazy, but always have a coat, some gloves, and toboggan in there.

We learn from our mistakes and it helps us prepare for future events which might be much worse.

1. Nope, I'm basically lazy and most of it is there in case I forget ammo for a range trip, or just make an impromptu range trip. I'm either carrying sig in 9mm or a wheel gun in 357 everyday though. There is always a rifle with me as well...

2. Based on whatever is usually leftover from the range trip or I add back in to the mix. Maybe on average a couple boxes of each.

Great BOB/GHB/GOOD bags everyone. However, y'all are over packing way too much........ Here's my bag....

And here is the only thing you need to put in it......... Chuck Norris costume LOL!!! You'll have no problem getting where you're going dressed as CHUCK!!

Great minds think alike! I keep 200 rounds of 5.56, 200 rounds of 9mm, 200 rounds of .45, 400 rounds of .22, 100 rounds of .380 and 100 rounds of .22 mag. And I also never leave home without a rifle. Usually a 5.56 of some kind but lately I've been carrying my CMR. I usually have a couple extra mags for guns that I carry on a regular basis. I also keep a sleeping bag, my GHB and some water bottles in the tool box. I too have been caught out, late at night and I'm getting too old to freeze!

Who you calling old?! Just kidding but no not me, just a pic I pulled from the interwebs. I don't think I was that skinny around that age anyway LOL!

If the costume didn't have "Chuck Norris" emblazoned across it, I might have guessed Hulk Hogan.

Anyhow, that's a badass costume, right there.

Probably the same mask lol

I love those old type of costumes where the persons name was written on the chest haha

But back to this stuff.
Anyone do any altoid tins for daily carry?
I posted in another thread, but this seems like a more fitting place since its more EDC related
Did something the other day to reduce both weight and space, will post up tomorrow

I'm moving soon and am going to set up a new GHB since I will be about 50 miles from home. Anyone got a suggestion on a good 20-25L bag? I'll be hitching a ride to where I'll be working everyday, so it'll have to come inside of the facility with me as well.

Looks like a lotta stuff in a small package :) very cool. I have questions though:

1) What's in the Orange tubes on the left?
2) I see chapstick in there... is there some alternate use for that (firestarter?), or do you just have that in there for lips?
3) What's that thing on the right with the cord around it?

1. Medicines. Tylenol motrin benadryl aleve and imodium. Jumbo straw cut down to size and melted shut. This one is mainly a FAK with some extras in it. Stays in a cargo pocket of my pants.

2. Both. Chapstick and fire starter if needed.

3. It's a tube to blow a it in a fire at a focused position. Wrapped in bank line just to have some bank line available.

Size? Based off of the Pioneer (or is that a cadet? either way) in the pouch I'd say its quite a bit larger than an altoids tin
I have been EDCing a tin because it easily slips into a pocket and will hold a handful of things vs them being loose in the pocket.
Plus, with it being metal it just slides in and out easily vs fabric which would have some friction

That said, I like your load out!

So since this is about "EDC" sharing, I thought I'd post this stuff here too

Here is my keychain set-up
Pretty minimal/basic, but it fits me well

Car key, house key
Fenix E05 (85 lm) and a LTMR AR15 keychain
The AR tool is my design, bottle opener, pry bar/flathead screwdriver. Started making them a few years ago, fun project. Did an AK too.

And then, as mentioned, my Altoids kit, which I am always working on improving

I carry this daily as well, slips easily into my front pocket.
Condom, alcohol wipes, sharpie mini, two sewing needles that are each threaded (these are in a straw tube so that they are loose), antibiotic ointment (2), bandaids (4, was 5 but used one the other day), and an acrylic tube with a few tylenol and toothpicks in it.

The tube I am pretty excited about.
Before this I was using a travel tylenol bottle, was about twice the diameter of this tube, slightly longer but a bit of wasted space inside.
It also made it hard for the lid to close tightly/securely.
So I went to the local hardware store and picked a few items up, including a 3' long acrylic tube, some cork, and an end cap for tubing.
It doesnt carry as much as the original bottle, but I dont need a ton of medicine each day, if any at all. When traveling I will have a larger bottle in my suitcase/hotel/etc to refill should I need to.

Toothpicks are important, if youve ever had something stuck in your teeth you'll know the value of these small pieces of scrap wood lol

Today my plan is to cut apart an arrow/bolt that i picked up at Walmart (on clearance, I bought two, one was two bucks, the other was $3.50, but its larger outside diameter, and longer) and see what the ID is on it. If I can still get some pills to slide down in there, as well a toothpick or two then I'll switch to that over the acrylic tube.

I want to add some more items to this, including a few feet of paracord, we'll see.

Rounding out my EDC is a multitool (typically a Leatherman, right now the Signal), my wallet, which is very minimal, and some lip balm

[IMG2=JSON]{"data-align":"none","data-size":"full","src":"http:\/\/i1320.photobucket.com\/albums\/u540\/garrettxowens\/20170218_102514_zps0ch1ks7z.jpg"}[/IMG2]

And, not pictured, is my Galaxy S5 cellphone

My kit isnt for everyone, we all have different needs and wants, but it works for me.
Always evolving it though, seeing what i need and dont need. I try to keep it pretty minimal, dont like bulky, bulging pockets

Lets see more of yalls' kit!

[edit/add] - In the second pic of the tin it looks pretty full, but when you lift the connie and alcohol wipes up there is actually still a good amount of space left under there
In fact, the biggest issue that I currently have is that since it isnt full it'll clank around a bit, just hear the stuff moving around.
Have considered taking some soft foam and making cut-outs for the individual items, but with it always changing I feel it'd be a waste of time and energy.

I do need to/want to add some Pepto tablets to it, which I have not, yet, purchased. Maybe I do that today.

Said in another thread that I started the kit for an upcoming DC trip, something that I could keep everything I needed in the city in one small container, and some pepto would def help if Im out walking around for 6 hours at a time and the feeling hits...yall know what Im talking about.

Ok, so here is my "Get Home Bag" that stays in my truck. It is packed almost to capacity however I am pleased to say that it weighs in at just over 15 pounds. I will try to update with some pictures of the contents when I get around to unloading it and taking photos. I am currently working on a larger bag that will serve as my 72 hour BOB/SHTF bag.

This might not be an all inclusive list because I am sure that I have forgotten a few items that are in there.

(Shelter)
5x9 Tarp, four light weight aluminum tent stakes, 100 feet of 550 cord, Emergency Bivvy
(Tools)
Fixed blade knife, multiplier, folding saw, Gorilla tape, cable ties, small d-rings x 4
(Light)
Head lamp, hand held flashlight x 2, extra batteries, tea candles x 6, chemlight x 2
(Fire Kit)
Disposable lighter, two containers of lifeboat matches, fire steel, tender packets (cottonballs and KY)
(Food/Water)
1200 calorie emergency ration, small packet of Spam, travel size Slim Jims, emergency water packets x 3, Sawyer Mini and two collapsible canteens, metal cup for boiling and CRKT eating utensil
(Medical Kit)
Gauze, Kerlix, trauma dressing, tourniquet, medical tape, trauma shears, hemostats, tweezers, bandaids, gloves, sutures, eye flush, alcohol and iodine swabs, sterile needles, scapel
(Misc)
Compass, signal mirror, wool socks, riggers belt, boonie hat, wool hat, emergency towel, baby wipes, disposable toothbrush, whistle, SAS survival guide, hand warmers x 2, foot warmers x 2, pen and pad and emergency blankets x 3

There are still a few items that I would like to pick up but I am pretty happy with the set up so far. I also have a large scale medical kit, change of clothes, boots and a fully stocked tool bag that are always in my truck. In addition to my S&W Shield that is my EDC and a Glock 27 that is my truck gun.

What am I missing? I am always willing to learn from others that have gone through the set up themselves.
