Sharpening chainsaw chains

If your in siler, stop by western auto to get your chains sharpened.

Just a thought on the all in one sharpener...I dont think it will work on skip chain or semi skip.
I know it won’t work on skip tooth. Not sure about semi. Most folks don’t use those these days or even know what those are. I said most. Lol. I got my chains super super cheap otherwise I’d be buying skip tooth chains

Thats it like someone else mentioned just be sure you get correct file size for your chain.
Semi-related question(s).

Are the sizes different based on the length of chain? Or the saw itself.

I have a 14” Echo and know what size file I need based on the manual. I got an open-box Poulan Pro that’s 18”, and I’m not sure if I have the manual or not. If they are different, is it possible to change one of them so they’re the same? I’m not sure if it’s just the chain that is sized, or are the bars also different. As in could I replace the 18” chain with a 5/32 if it came with a 3/16 or vice versa.

I have round files for the Echo, just never feel like I get it sharpened like it needs to be.

Usually two diffrent things help determine it. Cc/Hp of saw which is biggest factor usually and Bar length being other and sometimes type of wood can have a effect on choices. The file size is determined by the tooth size on the chain itself. Sometimes the chain tooth size is stamped in the side of the teeth or links. The number of links in a chain is determined by the bar length. You can have many combinations and the goal is to take the biggest bite while keeping the rpms up. I would guess they are both close in file size but hard to say without looking at it and there is pros and cons of changing it out vs just having two files. Depending on the chain style that maybe affecting why you say it doesn’t ever really feel sharp as well.

Chain info, bar length, file size(tooth size) 98% of the time is stamped in the side of the bar

Sharpened my Stihl today. Took 10 minutes. Got tired of hauling it to some lazy hardware where they lied about the date when it would be done. Too many trips for nothing. Usually took multiple items at a time like push more and hedge trimmers.

Now I sharpen all lawnmower blades, tools, chainsaws, etc... Service in my area is lame as hell. I’ll gladly not come in anymore and while I’m there buy lawn items or replacement parts. Loss of revenue for them in more than one way. They got replaced with my skills and Amazon.

round file of correct diameter, bastard file for tops of rakers. Watch a youtube video or two. It only takes 3-4 good pushes per tooth to sharpen them if you don't let them get too far gone. In 5 minutes you've sharpened the saw, rested a little, and saved yourself 12 bucks plus driving to town. I keep one new chain in the shed for each of my saws, but i've probably sharpened the current chains 30 times each over the last two years of tornadoes and winter storms/ firewood cutting.

I ordered a better tool for sharpening lawnmower blades. It’s on the way from Amazon. I was doing it with a fine grinding wheel on a drill. This wheel coming wraps both sides giving it the correct angle.
