Anyone have recommendations on someone to install night sights on a S&W Shield 9mm? Or maybe a good tool that's not as much as the gun?

Shop near me wants $100 and 2 weeks to install them. It's just a Shield, but I don't wanna give up my gun for two weeks to someone for something that shouldn't take longer than 20 minutes. I also don't want to spend as much as I spent on the sights, and half as much as I spent on the gun.

I'd rather do it myself but from what I've seen the tools are almost as much as the sights themselves...

This is the one I have. Works well. I think it was a little cheaper when I bought it. 85.00 or so.

Find another shop.

If you decide to DIY, beware that the rear sight is EXTREMELY tight. With a proper tool, I torqued and torqued and nothing happened. Suddenly, there was a crack sound so loud that my wife came running. I was sure I'd split the slide.

He's not wrong...^

It helps to liberally spray it in penetrating oil beforehand.

I've had this one for two or three years now. No issues.

That's more the price range I was hoping for! Thank you sir I'll check it out!

I have a sight pusher you can use but you'll have to come to my shop after hours because I don't loan tools. I'm near I-77 exit #7

That would be amazing thanks! Not too far from where my office is. I might take you up on that.

That's what I've heard about these. This is just my knock-around gun or a lightweight small alternative to my EDC so I don't really care what happens to it. And it's so cheap it can be replaced easily.
Plus it's the one the wife is familiar with so she's more comfortable with it. I figure just the night sights and a basic light and this one will be the night stand warrior when I'm not home. I used to carry it as a secondary on duty weapon.

AS I've posted in a few other threads about this exact topic...buy the tool. I tried the old fashioned stubborn fool way (brass punch) and went through three sets of night sights before I got it right!!!

Both sights were a royal bitch for me.

Must be some variance, my Shield sights were some of the easiest I've removed.

The Ameriglos I replaced them went in fine, don't believe they required any fitting. Fitting required is not uncommon as parts are rarely identical, perhaps why some struggle using a punch.

Truglo TFOs and a TLR6 work well. I liked it so much that I set up a second one identically as a backup to go in the GHB.

How do the Hyve extensions run? I'm debating on those. A +1 for the 7-rd and a +2 for the 8-rd.

No hiccups at all for me.

I have 2 +1s and 2 +2s. Made a deal in the classifieds this week to purchase three more Shield mags, 2 of which have the +2s.

I use the +1 for carry and the +2 as my reload. The smooth texture of the Hyve mag makes it ideal for IWB carry as it has no sharp edges to poke you. I forget it is there. And they feel better in the hand than the factory 7 or 8 round mags to boot.

Do you work for Hyve? Because you just sold me on them. :D Let them know you'll be needing some commission.

I’m on the other side of town but would gladly install them for you. I’ve done my shield and 2 M&P’s with my tool. The rears are SUPER tight, I thought I broke something when mine came loose.

I'll keep that in mind! I'm in Huntersville and Cornelius all the time. If I can't get my work schedule to cooperate to be able to meet @Catfish I'll let you know.
