I have a soft spot for this match because it's the first match I ever shot, back in the dim mists of 2010 (with a borrowed 1911, no less!). At the start of 2017, they moved from their old weekend schedule to being on the second Thursday of the month, starting at 6:30, which I like a lot. Before, on a Saturday, it was always competing (no pun intended) with a match or a live fire practice at the range. But a Thursday night isn't a time I can get much practice in, so I try to make it every month.
The match fee is still $15 for 6 stages, round count is usually about 75. Here's the match video from this month's match, which included a blind stage. IDPA doesn't technically allow them so this was technically and "IDPA-like" match but they were upfront about that and weren't trying to skirt the rules at all.
The folks that run this match and the other regular competitors are a great group of folks and very friendly, especially to first timers. If you live within driving distance of south Raleigh and want to shoot your first match or just get some trigger time with your carry gun, this is a great match. Simple, interesting stages that definitely don't always follow the same 12-round IDPA formula on every stage.
