Was playing around with the AR pistol (cleaning) and then started looking at the muzzle break. I was wondering if shooting it from a low position (chest level) if the muzzle blast would be in your face. This past weekend a friend was 2 benches over and he was feeling the blast. Shooting from the shoulder, the muzzle break is above your face.

Probably depends on the shape of the brake. If it's got top ports, maybe. If it's just side ports probably not too bad.

Like BF said ... depends on your brake’s design. If you really want to know just start as you normally do and move a couple inches at a time lower toward the level you want and fire one or two rounds until you either make it to your desired position or start feeling the muzzle blast. Just make sure to wear BOTH ear plugs AND muffs because the report will be worse on your ears than the breeze on your face from the edge of the blast.

I have two 7.5 inch AR uppers. One has a MI blast diverter and the other has a Kaw Valley Linear Comp.

Neither one hurts too bad

Anybody shot a linear comp and a flash can back to back? Wondering if there’s any noticeable difference? More concerned with noise level instead of flash or concussion.

BigWaylon, anything has to be better then that bird cage on my 7.5" AR 223.

I have a 7.5” with a riot brake. It was intentionally assembled to be as obnoxious as possible.

But, I just finished an 8.5” build that came with a flash can. Haven’t shot it yet...just curious of any noticeable difference with a flash can vs a linear comp, since they serve the same basic purpose.

not sure about sound level but I know the 'flash level' on a linear comp is way way below a flash can type forwarder.

Lets see if a 1/4" will make a difference and getting away from the bird cage break. Just wondering with a 7.5" barrel if I am going to have any pressure problems with the linear break.

Took the 223 out to the range today. I would say that the linear compensator made about a 30% difference in loudness and 50% in concussion. Money well spent.
