I have 2 kinds of shooting glasses, one with huge wrap-around lenses, and a smaller-lensed set that wraps around a bit less. The big ones get fogged up very fast so I quit using them, but the small ones have already had 2 cases fall in behind the lens. (One of them I didn't know had fallen in there till I got out to the checkout desk and it dropped out when I took off the glasses!)

The question is, can I drill small holes in the sides of the bigger ones to let the fog out/air in and still be "legal" to shoot? And will drilling the holes actually accomplish what I need them to? Lol.
I know you guys have the answers to these questions! Thanks again....

Wear a hat when you shoot. Good idea with either set
I get a bit claustrophobic in a hat these days. And my head needs to be uncovered to let out the heat! Lol. It's bad enough I have to have my ears and eyes "covered"....can I just put holes in the sides of the glasses to un-fog them and still be allowed to shoot? That's really the main question here.

If you really want to drill holes go for it. I've used plenty of goggles that were vented & they still fogged up. The only kind that didn't had a little battery powered fan mounted in them.
Ok, I'll think about the drops! Thanks for the link.
(Actually the fan idea sounds great if it would also cool my whole head! Maybe a hat with a fan?? Lol. Just kidding...)

Here's the ones with the fan. I think they'd be a bit much for a range trip but if you ever get into some action shooting these would be the ticket. They're about $150.

Those are nice, but yes, very pricey for the range, I think!
As to anything with the word "action" in it involving shooting, I might be too old and fat for that! Lol. I appreciate all your suggestions, thanks.

Have you heard of a product called Rain-X? They make anti-fog towelettes that you wipe down the inside of glasses, mirrors, whatever...and it leaves a clear film that prevents fog. Works good I use it on my helmet visors. You can find it at any auto parts store, wal mart, etc. and it's cheap.

Don't drill holes in the lenses. Doing so will weaken them and compromise their impact resistance. How much? You won't know until something hits them, and then it could be too late. You can reduce the fogging by rubbing the lens with an ordinary (dry) bar of soap, then polishing the soap off with a soft, dry cloth. This leaves a very thin, transparent coating on the lens. You can try this at home and stand in front of a hot shower to see if it works for you. Or, you could try the old scuba diver's trick of spitting on the lens and rubbing it dry, but I prefer the soap. And it 's almost free. ;)

Ive never thought to drill small holes in the sides or top..........dilly dilly!
It must not work too well, he said to use the drops....I might try it and see what happens. (I always have to find out things the hard way...)

Toothpaste also works.

I'll try it! Thanks. (The soap, not the spitting!)

OK...I'm going to be the one to say it...

Pics or it didn't happen!

Just kidding! But seriously, drilling holes may work, but at the expense of lens integrity. While most people think empty cases bouncing off the lenses, that's not all that may happen. Either buy ones designed and built with ventilation or treat the lenses with an anti-fogger of some kind.

I had a pair of glasses for riding the motorcycle that were wrap around and very comfortable...for a few minutes. They fit close to my face and got to be pretty hot after just a few minutes. I did drill six 1/8 inch holes on each side hoping to get some relief. It didn't work. They went to the trash.

Millie i have been wearing these for many weeks and they seem to work well. Someone also mention RainX makes Fog X type stuff. I know it works on windows. But these glasses below are cheap and stress tested them pretty good over the last month or so.
As for a hat, have you thought of a visor hat? Search those on Amazon. You get the bill of the hat and nothing covering the top of your head. If you shoot outdoors a billed hat of some type is a very good idea.

The soap, toothpaste, and spit all work. So does shaving cream applied the same as the soap.

I wear prescription glasses and wound up buying these. I haven't had any fogging issues with these glasses. I like that they fit close over my regular glasses. Price not bad either. You can get these on Amazon for about 7-10 per pair or buy a set for 30ish.

My first set of glasses said they'd fit over most Rx glasses, but they didn't fit over mine...but I used them anyway, they just got foggy. If the soap method doesn't work, or the anti-fog stuff, maybe I'll give these a try, thanks for the link.

You are welcome. Main reason I wanted these is I have to wear at work, so clear for inside, tinted for outside and amber if I shoot typically.

I'll try the soap before next trip, but I think the toothpaste may scratch the plastic. I need to read the ingredients. As for spitting on my glasses, I think I'll try some anti-fog first if the soap fails!
Will Kiss My Face work? It's not like the shaving cream that comes out of a can all fluffy. I guess it could still put a coating on the lenses....

Thanks for the Cat Crap! Lol. It's on the ever-growing list of options.

Plus 1 for the Cat Crap. I've used it for a number of years. Worked with my son's MX racing goggles, my street bike glasses, my shooting glasses, and prescription glasses. Easy to apply and come off, to avoid buildup on the lens.

So the question then becomes "how do I keep my camera lens from fogging up?"

Moving the glasses down the bridge of your nose can help, makes a little space at the top edge. Does not work with all glasses. You really should get used to a billed cap. I hope you find a good solution, foggy eyewear is a pain!

Well, I thought I was being brilliant by pulling them down on my nose a bit, but that's how 2 cases got in behind!! Lol. No damage done, one I didn't even know was there till I was taking my glasses off. (It helped with the fog when I fanned under the glasses.) The other case I left in there till I emptied the magazine and had the time to let it drop out the bottom of the glasses! I remember being told not to wave the gun around trying to get a case off me, so I just went on.

I really hate hats and will try to avoid one, and I'll try the "home remedies" on the lenses and see what happens. I might do the soap on one pair and hold it in the shower and see what happens. I'll be shooting Thursday morning, so we'll see if it works at the range! If I have to wear a hat, I will, but I'm not convinced yet....maybe if a case burns my hair off?? Lol.
