I'm interested in joining a group that gets together to go shooting regularly in the Charlotte area. If such a group already exists I'd like to join you, or if not I'd be interested in putting together a very informal group such as this.

I'd prefer to join an existing group, as I'm draw to the friendships and firearms, not the politics of making a group. So if something already exists please point me in the direction...

If not, then who would be interested in putting something together with me?

I have a membership at BlackStone Shooting and would be willing to organize us using their facility. It's a nice new indoor range, formal enough to ensure safety but casual enough to be fun. handguns & rifles welcome on their 25 yrd range. I like it. But, it is an indoor range and I much more enjoy shooting outdoors... If someone else has membership elsewhere, I'd be happy to check out your range or we could be a roaming group that gets to see many different local ranges. Whatever works best for whoever is interested...

I'd also like for those available to grab dinner afterwards. This gives us a chance to talk and get to know each other a little easier without shouting over gun shots & ear muffs.

Site Admin: If I've posted in the wrong area, feel free to move it. If I've challenged any site rules my apologies, I looked around and didn't see anything pertaining to something like this. If something gets rolling and an Admin wants to take over managing it, that's cool by me too...

Well that sure makes it easier :p

I assumed the "matches" were a more formal competition for more advanced shooters. I'm more at the point where I'd have to politely ask the burglar to hold still so I could shoot him properly.

Conveniently, the second Tuesday is only a couple of day away. I'll pop in after work and see what it's all about. What time?

The matches are definitely competition, they are structured to be fair and safe but I wouldn't call anything we do "formal". Come and shoot. People will tell you that the worst thing that could happen is that you might come in last place. I disagree, the worst that could happen is that you not come at all. Nobody will put any pressure on you except yourself. Let us know what you need if you're short on gear or ammo.

Before 6pm to mingle and ask questions. The match starts at 6pm ish.

Alot of us do compete, but mainly come to hang with friends and like minded folks, talk smack to, of and or about each other. Attempts at solving world problem have be made but rarely achieved.

Any cost to come observe on a Tue? I've never done any competition (shame on me), but would definitely prefer a dry run on the first visit.

None to watch. Im not shooting but will come out to meetup with y'all if you and Toby-H are showing up.

@Mike Overlay
Probably not this month for me, but will aim for the June match. I've gotta work Mon & Wed evening, and Thursday is my son's piano recital. No interest in being gone every night during the week.

Not a Charlotte local so don't shoot that one, but you really ought to load your mags to capacity, grab a holster and two or three pouches, sign up for Limited and punch some holes. Basics, don't touch the gun til they tell you to, finger off the trigger when not aiming/shooting, DO NOT let the muzzle point uprange at all ever. You'll pick up the scoring, and see or be shown ways to improve. You'll probably have a hard time enjoying a pistol from a fixed firing line after.

I'll definitely come this Tuesday. It'll probably be 7 or so by the time I can get there after work. But that's fine by me, I'll get to see how the whole gig works and share in on the mingling part, which is what I'm most interested in.

I found this: http://ncsection.org/ USPSA match list and have been looking at them. I work most Saturdays unless rained out (construction hours). So I'll check out a Sunday one unless weather lets me have a Saturday.

Thanks for the information and support.

Is this every Tuesday @ Blackstone? I work right down the street and have been wanting to get into some match shooting. Would be interested in coming to watch a match to see if it's for me.

The mention of it earlier was 2nd Tuesday...so monthly instead of weekly.

Statesville is a great one every 3rd Sunday afternoon. Little smaller scale than some of the other outdoor matches, but that means it doesn't burn your whole day.

If you're going to come out Tuesday to watch you should just bring your gun, holster, mags and ammo.... and participate. You'll have more fun.
