Really no idea what actually happened yet.

Santa Fe High School is on lockdown after a shooting inside the school. Witnesses say the shooting took place in an art class on campus between 7:30 and 7:45 a.m.

Santa Fe Police, Galveston County Sheriff's Office and ATF agents have all responded to the school at 16000 Highway 6. Students are being lined up outside the school, and their backpacks are being deposited for officials

Life Flight was also called to the scene. There is no official confirmation of any injuries at this time, but there does appear to be a possible body under a sheet near an exit door

A student tells ABC13 she saw a gunman shoot a girl. This is an unconfirmed report.

Sophomore Leila Butler tells ABC13 that at about 7:45 a.m. fire alarms went off and students left their classrooms. She reports some students believe they've heard shots fired. She is currently sheltering with other students and teachers near campus

I realize this isn't (supposed to be) the focus of the news event, but I see issues with this. Unless there is cause to suspect that they're somehow involved, I highly question mass searches and I would be hard pressed to comply with anything like that.

Sorry but no, I don't give up constitutionally protected rights so easily, even or especially. under the guise of security.

Looks like that they are reporting at least 8 dead.

I am seeing 10 dead now but 2 in custody?

When was the last time there were multiple shooters?

Just heard reporters discussing how shotguns are devastating at close range but lose effectivness at larger ranges compared to the ar15. Just how big have classrooms gotten since i was in school?

What's true is that these types of events didn't happen in the past with nearly the same degree of frequency. What's changed? People had guns back then, do that's not it. What they didn't have was all this social media, 24x7 in your face, unable to get away from bullies or other aggravations. Perhaps what we need a "ban" on is all this Twitter, Farcebook, Instagram, or whatever stupid thing they're using today?

Don't forget the news media treating them like celebrities now either.

thats just crazy talk - that would require money, introspection, realist examination of cultural effects from liberal policies, parenting and social norms. its just much easier to ban guns and create more laws that dont directly impact the antigunners.

Prayers to the families. I saw that one officer was injured. Hope he recovers swiftly but I’ll give kudos from this information it seems the officers actually did their job and didn’t sit outside the school like in Coward County, FL.

Just yesterday (or the other day), there was a thwarted incident at another school by a SRO who did his job.
That didn't get any coverage. Proves what Dana Loesch says media will only touch it when there are fatalities.

Sadly, the media have bodies this time to push their agenda, and shooter(s) in custody to idolize for the next few weeks until the next shooting. :(

Which reports state a shotgun was used? I know it wasn't an AR because none of the links I have read say anything about the type of weapon used.

fox and cnn have reported a shotgun along with explosive devices on and off campus (so far)

I also saw reports of a shotgun on ABC & Fox News. On both channels they were talking about how close you have to be with a shotgun. To me, they seemed to imply that if you weren't close the effects would be minimal. Before anyone jumps at me, I didn't say that nor do I agree with it.

Someone should let all those dead turkeys from this season know how close 40yds is

We also had parents that did homework, yard work, and church with their kids. They gave them whippings and held them accountable for their actions plain and simple. We also had the ability to lock up mentally dangerous people.

Also what wasnt just 20ish years ago is the "Gun Free Zone" schools ( thanks Sen. Biden). I was done in 86 in Charlotte, it was a common deal to have rifles and shotguns in cars. Guys with knives in their pockets.

We didnt have school shootings then...

An article I saw from Houston Chronical said AR-15, shotgun, pistol, and pipe bombs.

Yep. I agree. Especially the part about standing with a bunch of other people out in the open right after a shooting when no one knows if there are more shooters somewhere.

The shooter(s) were juveniles which means that their parents are responsible. They should be rounded up and charged with murder. If we start locking up the parents a lot of this juvenile crime (especially gang life) would stop.

Control over any being with free will is an illusion.

Nobody gave up anything. Any student on school property can be searched at any time.

When and where does one give these rights up for this statement? Is it in some fine print in a user agreement, do parents sign those rights away at 1st grade?

Conspiracy lovers will have a field day with this after David Hogg’s speech last night in California at a antigun rally. He said gun violence kept him up at night. "There is someone alive right now that will not be alive at this time tomorrow and has never even thought about gun violence, but everyone around them will have to for the rest of their lives.”

Very true, they would press you well beyond what you may imagine until you complied. Ever hear the saying “you never win on the side of the road”? Same applies here, not the time to assert your opinions about your rights.

This a fact or opinion? And where'd you come up with this?
1985 TLO v NJ

To be fair, it doesn’t give unlimited authority to search, but very broad authority.
