So... when you hear a “belt whine” on a 2UZ, don’t ignore it. Alternator died on way to Christmas parade. Made it to parking, just BARELY... AAA towed to the only shop I’ve used. Got it there and saw their quote...NOPE! I have all the parts for alternator and timing belt. Anyone know a good shop near Wake Forest?

Whatever you do, don't go to the guy under the rail bridge near CVS. I forget his name, but he's a damn crook.

Good to know.

He not only did shoddy work on my car but he billed me f work and parts he never even did/used. And got butthurt when I called him out about it.

Precision Tune over on Rogers Rd always takes care of my vehicles... Decent, fair shop.

They may even quite you over the phone to save the tow.

If serpentine, I'll do it for you...

Timing belt or serpentine belt?

Timing belt. The Toyota 2UZ needs it done around 110k. And it’s not optional. I just figured while it’s down anyway, I should do it. The serpentine will get done too just for kicks.

In retrospect, I should have just had the wrecker drop it at my house as I can do the alternator and plugs here then just schedule the timing belt somewhere.

Still, I need a good trustworthy shop around here. I’ll check out Precision.

on a 2UZ you may want to consider changing out your water pump and thermostat while its apart.
