Anyone using or have used one of these roll crimpers (see image)? I have been trying to use one to get a decent roll crimp on some 12ga. Lyman sabot slug loads. Most of the roll crimps come out with a bulge that goes completely around the mouth of the shell after crimping see image. The bulge is bad enough that they do not fit in the chamber easily. I have tried turning the crimp head slow , fast, with low pressure and high pressure and I just cannot get that bulge out of it. Other than the bulge it is not to bad of a crimp. Any suggestions on solutions or techniques would be appreciated.

I have one. I had the same problem with buckshot loads this weekend. Trim the case so you have less shell to roll over. That worked for some test cases. I had trouble with 3inch Winchester cases that I didn’t cut all of the ‘crimped’ part of the hull off.

I got a replacement today. The matrix on the top is the replacement. The matrix on the bottom is the original. Funny thing is the ragged replacement works better than the original. Neither pass the QA test. The replacement matrix leaves a bulge but it is smaller than the original. Neither leave a good bevel on the outside edge. They are made of poorly cast aluminum. Good idea bad matrix design. I suppose I will have to go for drill type. I am still open for fixes or suggestions.
