I'm looking at loading 12ga 2 3/4 (1oz or 1 1/8 oz lead shot) for clay shooting out of an auto loader. I would like to use titegroup powder if possible since I have a decent amount. The problem I'm running into is that I can only find Cheddite primers and none of my published load data list that combination. Does anyone have any experience loading shotgun with titegroup? Are cheddite primers interchangeable with another brand of primers?

In general, shotgun components are not interchangeable. none of them. what manuals and comps do you have? maybe we can find a recipe for you.

Several very experienced shotgun reloaders I shoot with substitute the Cheddites for Winchester 209’s in their target loads with good results over many hundreds of rounds. In my shotgun I got a few pierced primers with the Cheddites. It didn’t appear to be pressure related-maybe just the condition of my firing pins. Not telling you what to do just reporting experience.

As for tight group loads, the Hodgdon site shows several in your range. Of course none with Cheddites:confused:

You might want to check some of the Shotgun shooting / Trap-Skeet fourms for some ideas.
I do know several people who say that the primers are tighter than regular 209's in the pockets
and that they expand the pockets larger. some also mentioned "pierced" primers. Then you hear
they work fine, don't have first hand experience here. Was thinking about buying some but decided
not to. Located some Federal 209's. Maybe will try some in a old 12ga laying around, some Gun Club
hulls.

Search there. A lot of discussion.

Cheddite primers have different dimensions than others.

I know they are larger but other than that I have never had any issues. I still have 5000 of them left for SASS reloading. But I don't change my loads at all for that. I read that it's a "cooler" primer that's about it. But seems to work perfectly fine for my black power and light recoil target loads.

Cheddite primers are fine. When loading, just use the Win 209 data. I've shot thousands of shotgun reloads with Cheddite primers with no problems.

I just used the hogdon website since that's the powder I have on hand.
